Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

PFD: you gotta go all the way, man, and get the SK! I'd love one for a sight gag. Some may find it embarrassing, but only real men play pink guitars :smokin:.

Sharpen up your "Yankee Rose" chops. Definitely sponge-worthy.

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

Ascension, where the Hell were you during the Grover Jackson thread today?

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

A really bright yellow Ibanez. I visited the thing at the music store a few times and decided I was going to be mine. I didnt go back to that store until I had the cash saved up. Of course, it was long gone when I got there. I couldnt leave empty handed so I walked out with a metallic red charvel that smelled like candy. Not a bad consolement present.

Why did it smell like candy? Did it have Smarties™ for fretboard inlays?

When I first got it THIS thing!

It's an absolute BEAST of a guitar super light plays like a dream and sounds incredible!
Being primarily a Praise and worship player in Church I was nervous about the reaction the first time I played it in Church but it has been a big hit. Now folks ask where the pink guitar is when I DON'T bring it LOL!

I bought one of these babys... mainly cos I couldn't afford a JEM
Looking back I must have looked ridiculous... then again I was mainly playing bass so it never appeared on stage :)

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

Embarrasing ???

NO WAY.

I am supremely proud of my eternal love for the HOYER FOLDAXE !!!!!!!

(of course i've never seen one, let alone met one, but I love it regardless).

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

I´d still be more than happy to rock one of those!

some of the others on this thread too.

My "crush" is also something I´d be happy to play now too; a Kramer Pro Axe Std...I´m even contemplating building something along similar lines at some stage in the future.

The type of music I play now has mellowed a lot but it definitely wouldn´t stop me from wanting to play some cool guitars.

YEAH!!! WTF is wrong with a Jackson?? If someone were to be like "here's a natural finish RR1" I'd be like "EFF YEAH!".

Even though I don't care for natural finishes or Floyd Rose trems, I'd still hit it like the fist of an angry god!

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

Must say thta word embarresing is not strictly accurate.
If I had the space and the money I would have a room full of really rather tastless guitars.
Dayglow colours, funny pointy shapes, custom paint jobs (some of the Ibanez ones from the late eighties/early ninties were great).
It would be the room next to the one with wall to wall flame maple, across the hall from the room of oddball bass creations (I have no use what so ever for a six string picalo, fretless bass but I've wanted one for years).

Though I'm a firm non fan of the Floyd Rose, I loved and STILL love those Charvels- I wish I had bought one of the several I played back in the day, and I'd love to have an orange or surf one now (blocked and with much better pups)

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

I like the orange charvel. Looks like an orange creamsicle. And everyone knows those are delicious.

I always thought those must be great as I have a picture of Jeff Beck playing a Jackson version. Turns out Jeff only 'played' it in a video.

Must say I do miss mine, it was just so damn easy to play.
The pups weren't up to much mind and only really came to life with the sweepable mid boost switched in.

I had a two pickup Charvel, H and S which was easy to play. It's retierd at the moment with no pickups as I used them for another project. I am tempted to get a EVH Frankenstien for it. It's already stripped and oiled my a former owner.

For someone with long hair and leather pants, there's nothing wrong with a Jackson.
But I never had long hair, I was never that much into playing Metal, and my KV4 just didn't suit me overall. Like giving Dave Grohl a Kerry King signature ESP.
In fact with my Ibanez SZ it's the first time I've felt at home with my #1 in ages.

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

Oh my, bit of a list this.
Hamer Scarab... black with red splotches, Ibanez Jem, desert yellow of floral pattern, Ibanez DT250 in trans red... all of it, even the maple fretbaord. Just so much trans red you needed a red jump suit to play one or you'd look stupid... ehm.
Really all of the mad coloured crazy things from the eighties I wanted so bad that it hurt.
Eventually I ended up with a turquoise charvel spectrum (reverse headstock, bit like the Jackson Beck used on Flash) after a candy red Destroyer. These days my tastes are a little more sane... well apart from the gold tokai explorer I had the other year :)

It's was the early 90's. I was in a pawn shop in S Cal. There it was - a black Hamer Explorer like I'd seen in the magazines. The price was right for a kid with not a lot of $. I bought it on the spot. There were only two flaws: fret buzz all over and "EAT ME" in large type was inlayed over the fretboard. I'm not the type of person who you'd expect to see playing a guitar that reads "EAT ME" but hey, it was a Hamer Explorer, right?

The embarrassment of playing that guitar coupled with the massive intonation problem lead to it's sale a few years later. I wish I had a picture to post.

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

I think I can honestly say that I didn't have a crush on any weird guitar.
I like the usual, Les Paul and ES335-style.

Strat-style was my first electric as it was the one I could afford (because it was a Peavey Raptor II!).

Took some time to get to like telecasters.

I didn't like the Jem before, but after watching a few youtube videos of some people really playing them nicely, I don't hate them. Don't know if I would get one though
