One person might like one gold better then the other person might like it. Learn to find you're own favourite. There's even a difference between two 2012 Gibson Les Paul standard Gold tops. Its just a matter of seeing those differences.

It depends what gold you're going for. Even with Jewlery- there's a difference in color between 10k, 14k and 24k gold.
The only guitar finish with real gold were a few Fenders that were covered in gold leaf- but gold leaf gives a different look than gold plated metal.
Gibson's "gold tops" were originally bronze powder mixed in with the laquer.
There are some finishes that emulate gold plating.
