"most guys are using digital delays"

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

I find the whole digital vs analog thing amusing.

Let's remember first of all - no one in the audience cares or knows.

That said, one of the reasons for creating digital was a perceived lack of sound quality preservation. Thus the rise of digital 'exact' copies. Now we have decided that they are cold and sterile and don't sound natural. So we seek out the natural sounding analog delay!

Silly rabbits...

As do I...

Let's remember first of all - no one in the audience cares or knows.

Maybe, maybe not however if you go by this then the audience knows or cares if you're playing a LP and Marshall or a Series 10 and a Randall so you shoudl trade in those LP's for a series 10 quickly...

That said, one of the reasons for creating digital was a perceived lack of sound quality preservation. Thus the rise of digital 'exact' copies. Now we have decided that they are cold and sterile and don't sound natural. So we seek out the natural sounding analog delay!

The big reason for the switch from tape to analog pedals was size, cost, up keep, etc...

The switch to digital from analog had some to do with the sound but also to do with more repeats, longer repeats, etc

As for what people want now I'll say this...for me personally it has to do with getting specific sounds...you'll never get those sounds from the 60's and 70's with a digital pedal so I don't use one for those for that but you'd never cop those more modern digital delay sounds with an Echoplex or Memory Man so for those I don't use one for those...

It's all about having the right tools for the job you are trying to do...

Silly rabbits...

what do rabbits have to do with anything??

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

This thread reminded me I have one of these. It needs some attention. I should get it done. It was a bit noisy but did it's thing fine.

I used to feed the low out into a phaser and then back into one of the inputs. That created a different effect.

you know whats both kinda funny and sad about this thread?
Most dudes probably do use digital delays!

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

IMO for delay, digital is better. I like it when you can set the delay time PRECISELY. And regarding this, the one pedal I want to get is the TC Electronic Nova Delay : you don't have to stick to milliseconds, you can adjust with tempo+note duration.

Regardless of that, if you just want an ambient delay sound, get a cheap analog. It does the job just as well. :D

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

Yes, at this point, all humor has been lost.

Now back to work, I need a buffered true bypass circuit to go in my new all analogue digital delay simulator.

Well, I just find that I like the versatility and the possibilities of the digital delays... Really liking the DD-20 I've had these six years, but I'm looking at the Superdelay too...

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

Yeah, it looks very nice, and I will probably want to get one some time, but it's expensive, and if I can snag a Superdelay for $300 meanwhile people are gasing for the $450 Timelines, that's fine for me.

I think most do use digital delays. I am always willing to criticize GC but I really don;t see anything inaccurate about that statement. Nothing wrong with digital delays. They have a "sound" just like analog delay is a "sound".

Re: "most guys are using digital delays"

I could tell the difference, but frankly I could care less, I don't play slow enough for anyone else to know or care either. ---> insert cheesy smile here<----

Thank You for including Frank Lee, but He really doesn't know much about delays other than the old Ibanez AD-9 He had a few years ago.

Thank you.
