I'm gonna have to go with mini-fridge and bottle opener.

I did my best playing when I had a guitar -> amp setup.

Purity of gear is a wonderful thing.

Now I am addicted to my Compressor and my Tubescreamer and such, and focus too much on tone and not enough on music.

It's shameful.

And again - look at the gear he has ALREADY: SG + Twin. add a distortion pedal, and a delay, and if he can't do it there is only one excuse: HIM.

I think most people don't learn to 'play' the amp well enough. I also think that is a semi poor amp choice for people who want to play a range (without a bunch of pedals!). A Fender Hot Rod would have been a much better choice.

Who is getting the kids gear and what is your relationship / input here?

I wish they would make a clam digger pedal. Then when you blow a clam it will cover it up with the right notes.
