Most Preferred Fender Amp Available Today?

Re: Most Preferred Fender Amp Available Today?

How do you deal with no reverb?
Thanks...

lots of players dont use reverb. like almost anyone who uses a vintage style marshall. i have a fender reverb tank and it sounds great but i leave it at home plenty of times and just go straight into the amp. no reverb, no fx, just amp turned up

Its a nice unit - no doubt. Had my unit nearly 20 years. I paid less that half that out the door...

For much less $$ - Strymon. There's a number of other units out there that will fill the bill like the Neunaber Wet. Plus a lot of these units you can use in a loop without a lot of trouble - or you can go wet/dry.

My Traynor 1976 YBA 2 is insanely dry... you don't realize how much you like that little touch of reverb till its gone. I tried the Malekko Spring pedal but it had a very artificial decay ..

Re: Most Preferred Fender Amp Available Today?

Of all the Fender amps available today (re-issues, etc), what produces the best vintage and rock sound? I have an EC, Supersonic and Vibroking, and looking for one more Fender best suited for 60's and 70's jams. To be used mostly by strats and maybe PRS at times. Looking at '65 Twin Custom and '65 Twin Reverb at the moment. Appreciate any thoughts and recommendations!

Why reissue?

Actual vintage Fenders can be had at very reasonable prices right now, especially if you can drive for local pickup.

Myself I really like Super Reverbs and Deluxe Reverbs.

The reissue amps just don't do it for me. I don't know maybe its just me but the difference in price for a RI & a silverface is about 3 to 400. I'd rather put a few bucks together and get an amp that is built right. The RI are all circuit boards and when they get hot the solder joints heat up & you can develop a lot of issues with them. That said is IF you are planning on buying a silver look for one that is non master volume. I would say the years are 67 through about 73 or 74. These amps are essentially a blackface with a few minor differences. In 73 or 74 they added the MV & they made a ,lot of other design changes. Those design changes kind of ruined a great sounding amp. Of course thy're are some silvers with master volumes that do sound good, but overall I think the MV was a mistake. Why do you think they reissued the blackface & NOT the MV silvers??

The down side of buying a "vintage" style or aged amp is that IF the caps haven't been replaced they will probably NEED to be. They usually have about a 15 to 20 year life expectancy and once you go beyond that they need to be replaced.

Bumping.... Have read great reviews about the Bassman but just wonder with no reverb how(if at all) does it affect your playing style?

That's going to depend on you. If it bothers you, get a pedal or Fender Tank.

Well, Robben Ford uses rental Super Reverbs when traveling in Europe, but he doesn't use the buil-in Reverb; he's got a Boss RV-3 in his pedalboard.

If it's good enough for him...
