Most underrated 'Duncan?

Re: Most underrated 'Duncan?

I gotta go with my man Jolly on this one. The Jazz bridge and really even the Jazz neck suffer a bit from the Jazz title I think. These pickups are amazing and can really do it all! I really love the Jazz bridge too though, it's one of the best pickups I've ever used!

I have the Jazz N in the Iceman with the Dimebucker. They make a killer combo.

Re: Most underrated 'Duncan?

The "Concept Set" if still available. Fairly unique sound and on my Warmoth designed tele (close to the TeleGib specs) produces a very nice tone that is far from the standard "twang" of a tele. Good stuff!

Re: Most underrated 'Duncan?

Yup. I've got the calibrated set, sitting here in a box, for over a year. Dying to try them out. Just trying to find the time. :banghead:

Parallel Axis, all models.

+1000 - I don't understand why these don't get more attention. I've got the PATB-1n and PATB-3b in my LP Custom. Absolutely killer pups.

Plus, lets do a shout out for the Cool Rails. Totally unique sound. IMHO.

I vote for the Alternative 8. It's a great modern rock pickup, and I don't think it gets recommended nearly enough.

Re: Most underrated 'Duncan?

Five-two for Strat. Everything I like in a Strat pickup, with nothing I don't. Would love to try the stack version sometime.

Re: Most underrated 'Duncan?

another for the dimebucker, they bash it really bad, i totally love how it sounds on parallel with the tone dialed back to 7, really so good for blues, also the only bucker i've heard twang that hard when split

Re: Most underrated 'Duncan?

The PATBs. They look funny with the squirrel teeth polepieces but they sound the business.

I love the Dimebucker! I think most people consider it to be a one trick pony, but that pickup can handle so many styles...great great pickup!

I get a great Keef tone with the Dimebucker split going through my little Excelsior. I think people see Dime's name on it and think everything they play with it will sound like Pantera or Damageplan. O well they are missing out.

How does it compare to the standard JB/Jazz?

Re: Most underrated 'Duncan?

Vintage rails. Have it in the neck and mid and lil'59 in bridge of my '94 Strat.

Re: Most underrated 'Duncan?

Perpetual Burn, it's too new I guess to be underrated, but it fixes most of the complaints people have with the JB ( loose low end, honky upper Mids) and adds better cleans and amazing response to the volume control AND the tone controls on your amp.

Re: Most underrated 'Duncan?

Some really good stuff here! Also makes me want to try out a few of these pickups.

Case in point: With all the 'Duncan's I have owned or tried, I have never tried the Jazz bridge or the Parallel axis models.

Re: Most underrated 'Duncan?

I have only a few non modded duncans - sometimes magnets, also shorter screws or hexes for the wound strings. So i am glad to say i found no way to improve the stock Jazz Bridge - a hidden gem

Absolutely! I have tried the Jazz and it didn't do anything special for me but I really want to try the Parallel Axis...hear a ton of good things about them.
