Most versatile guitar

Re: Most versatile guitar

I think there are some simple absolutes along those lines, yes.

If an Esquire with just a bridge pickup is versatile, a Telecaster that adds a neck pickup is more versatile.

If an H-H superstrat is versatile, a very similar model with a splittable neck pickup is more versatile.

But when you compare, say, the P-90 in the bridge of an LP Jr. with the bridge pickup in a Tele, how do you say that one is more versatile than the other? How do you determine whether the neck single coil on a Strat is more or less versatile than the neck single-coil on a Tele? If you put a Custom Custom in the bridge of a Strat, is it more or less versatile than a Custom 5 in the bridge of an SG? Now mix it up with different pickup types: Tele bridge vs. PAF bridge in an LP. Humbucker in the neck of a Tele vs. P-90 neck in a hollowbody.

yo do have a good point, but i was looking for more of something that can handle high gain, sparkly cleans, coil splittable, tremolo, without having to go way over the top like some Mockingbirds by BCR with all the little knobs.

Re: Most versatile guitar

I'd say the most versatile guitar is the telecaster. Just so much can come out of it, and it CAN do metal! I'm not talking about a Mick Thompson telecaster, a standard telecaster can really do metal.

AMEN !!!

My Tele with BK Flatt 50's into a Hi-Gain amp sounds pretty bloody Kick @SS :rocket:

Re: Most versatile guitar

is it due to the hot single coils tele's use in the bridge ?

I think it has more to do with the EQ of the pick up.
Yes, the pick up is hotter than your std 7K type of Tele bridge unit, but the Broadcaster style voicing helps more than anything - to my ears at least !

Im sure that definitely voices it properly for a metal-like tone

I have these . . . the Flat 50's in my Tele.

And acording to the site, they are Vintage voiced !

LOVE them !

Re: Most versatile guitar

true, a Mesa Boogie Rectifier and a Fender Blues Junior are giving you different tones, but not only difference but quality, 75$ amps and a 2000$ guitar wont exactly cut it.

I think I should just get an overwound noiseless single coil set for my tele, because the Tele Hot Rails in the bridge isn't cutting it. Too muddy, and not a tele. I think I got better metal tones (mids are important, lots of mids) with the stock MIM bridge pup. Also need to get a 3-brass saddle bridge.

I am a big fan of the 3 brass saddle set-up.

Hot Stack for Tele maybe? I love the one in the bridge of my Tele. They don't make a matching neck pickup, so maybe a Vintage Stack in the neck? If you're into alterate sounds maybe try a Strat / P-90 / mini-hum / full size hum? I'll be installing an SM-1 Vintage Mini-hum in mine.

Re: Most versatile guitar

Well, I want gain, but not over the top gain that so many people accidentally do. I want a pickup with strong mids, and even stronger highs, a little rolled back bass, but can push an amp a little hard. I mostly play stuff like Black Sabbath, Queen, Alice in Chains, Dio, and doom metal in general. I need something with bite, and needs to be noiseless, whether a single-sized humbucker or noiseless single coil.

Re: Most versatile guitar

The HotRails do sound like the suit the situation, but i guess they didnt do the job.

The Quarter Pound set might be worth looking into, the STL-3 and STR-3, they come in a set.

BTW that Godin is a beauty, that the type of stuff im looking for :)

I actually have a blue Godin LG Signature AAAA. Mine is like yours, but it does not have all the extra electronic bells and whistles. If you want the ultimate "do everything guitar" then the LGXT would be the one.

True I have contemplated putting a tremolo whammy on mine many times to get that " ultimate versatility " , but I can't mess this guitar's looks it is so sexy heh heh heh .

The LGXT :

Quote Godin's sight :

" Body
A blend of tone-woods is used in the body of the LGXT. The
body is made of a silver leaf maple center with poplar wings
and a figured maple carved top. "

LGXSAs are made from a solid mahogany billet for the body with it's carved maple top instead of the two other woods ( poplar & silver leaf maple ) topping the LGXT's body , I'm partial to the chunk and fat tone of mahogany like yours and mine . .

Thinking on modding my strat to do that with a Roland ready strat mod , cheaper too .

Wow your is a AAAA grade , I was not aware they had that grade level , must be super dooper special crazy good .

Mine is a AA and many think it's a AAA looking at the figured maple and saying it looks more like the " quilted " and not a figured AA top .

Took me years to see the little tiny " knot " in the maple top's surface on one corner , the AAAs I'm told do not have any of those little knots and that's the difference I guess , heck it's so tiny no one notices it at all .
