Never seen that before myself. Have heard it said that this type of thing happens but didn't really (never wanted to???) believe it. But there it is!!! LOL!!!
Well I thought I understood what you were saying about the sarcasm but now not so sure???

The wall of amps started back in the late 60s or so, back then they didn't have the efficient PAs like today, so yeah, Hendrix and Noel were all the amps/cabs and poor Mitch was getting lost, they didn't mic the drums. But, going into the 70s/80s it became more of a fashion statement. I mean Ed was only using the bottom cabs, and I doubt he was using all of them.

Slayer used to have a similar thing except the cabs were 4x10 size and doubled as storage cases but you couldn't tell they were smaller because of the proximity from the stage front.
