Mountains to Climb - the mighty Fender Mustang Mini.

I keed, it's not so mighty. I'll be replacing the chorus rhythm guitars hopefully soon with a better heavy sound. No dual rectifier in the house so I'll see what I can come up with/borrow.

The rest is the ES2, Predator, Sylenth soft synths, Battery for drums and the Blue Snowball Ice for vocals recorded in Abelton live. Mix or other crits always welcome.

nice! I like the chorus octave backing track. the bassdrum is nice and snappy there. lots of clarity in this mix and the vox are not pitchy. for CC I would like more definition in the rhythym guitars at 2.05 when they kick in, more prominence and tonality. maybe some cymbals and change in the drums would be nice too.

nice breakdowns, nice piano! very slick/great mixing! one of your best methinks, and nice vocal message :)

Re: Mountains to Climb - the mighty Fender Mustang Mini.

Thanks guys! Yeah, the Mustang just doesn't have it for a heavy rhythm imo, maybe it's the guitar pup but it's a borrowed guitar so no changing it out. Good tips everdrone, cheers.

Re: Mountains to Climb - the mighty Fender Mustang Mini.

I have a Dual Rec and would be happy to cut the heavy guitar track for you, or even reamp your original/DI track.

Are you serious? You would do that? That's too cool man! I can give you a DI'd wav file if you want to do it. If not no big deal. It's only 8 bars, well 16 but I could loop it.

Yep, totally!

Do you have more than one guitar track?

If so, export each track as a separate mono wav file but the entire length of the song; this will make lining it up easier for you later.

I can then run the track thru ... well any number of amps if you like, but if you are looking specifically for that Recto sound, that's easy: I'll just mic up my Dual Rec!

Re: Mountains to Climb - the mighty Fender Mustang Mini.

Thank you! That's awesome of you. It's just the chorus which is four chords. I have the sounds I recorded through the Mustang but they have distortion. I guess it's best with a clean DI no amp? Anyhow, I'm kind of thinking I wanted to go for the Linkin Park chorus sound so maybe a couple different passes with the rectifier, different mic placement or whatever. Or, something like 1 rectifier and one other heavy amp. Just a couple of passes should do I think.

I can just give you the BPM and the wav file for the 8 bars trimmed to length.

Re: Mountains to Climb - the mighty Fender Mustang Mini.

Yes, DI track would be best for reamping.

Actually, the best way is a mono wav for aiff file the entire length of the track. Then you just import it right in. Basically, just make a mixdown of the song but mute all the tracks aside from the DI; you will have to do it as many times as you have DI tracks.

Honestly, I would recommend doing 4 passes a the choruses. I can then treat each one different and it will yield a HUGE guitar sound, which you can then do what you please with. :)

Re: Mountains to Climb - the mighty Fender Mustang Mini.

I can import it easily and place it anywhere in Logic as long as we work at the same BPM it's easy, it's not a problem. If you would like the entire song though I can do that too. I just use the same guit part in all the choruses. Okay, I'll record four passes of the chorus and get back to you. Thanks again man!

Re: Mountains to Climb - the mighty Fender Mustang Mini.

You're very welcome. :)

I have had minor issues with matching tempos from Cubase to other DAWs, which is why I recommend sending the track whole-hog. It will save you headaches later, trust me!

Re: Mountains to Climb - the mighty Fender Mustang Mini.

Tracks received! I should be able to get this knocked out this weeked. :)

Re: Mountains to Climb - the mighty Fender Mustang Mini.

... and reamping is complete!

Had to get the Mesa and combo stand out of storage, and then I did some valve swapping, but ended up with a tube compliment that I really liked:

Preamp is all JJ ECC83S's for V1-4. V5-6 is a pair of Wattgrinders.

Power amp is a pair of Ruby EL34L's and a pair of EHX EL3's.

Rectifier is a pair of EHX 5U4GB's.

Signal chain is:

Interface OUT > Radial passive Reamp > Lava Clear Connect Cable > Mesa Tremoverb (Modern High Gain mode) > Randall Iso cab w/V30/Sennheiser e609 > BLUE mic cable > SSL Alpha Channel > Interface IN

I ran 2 of the tracks w the mids scooped and 2 of the tracks w the mids boosted on the Mesa.

I hope the tracks work well for you. If you want something else done with 'em, just let me know.

You rock man! I'm going to try them out this weekend or even today, thank you very much!

And, I want to hang at your place! Look at all those toys!

Re: Mountains to Climb - the mighty Fender Mustang Mini.

Here's the re-amp version. Thanks TwighlightOdyssey I think it sounds much better! Rectifier 1 Mustang 0. :)

Re: Mountains to Climb - the mighty Fender Mustang Mini.

is this is project aside from another black season?
i really like it.

Re: Mountains to Climb - the mighty Fender Mustang Mini.

good job twilight, def more treble and upper mid presence adds that cut and solid spot in the mix.
