Moving toggle switch on Les Paul

How is it in the way while tapping? Are you laying your thumb that far across that it's near the switch or is it your arm hitting it?

Depending on where I'm tapping it hits me in the wrist, so I end up not tapping as much on the LP and I don't do all that much tapping anyway.

It's not a huge deal to move all that stuff...but since you need to make the hole bigger, be REALLY REALLY sure that you want to do that and the safest bet is to bring the guitar to a luthier and NOT a Joe Blow repair shop. The best of the best can plug the hole and refinish that area to the degree where it looks almost totally stock. Personally, I'd leave the switch where it is and put in a mini-toggle or push/pull and not muck around with drilling holes. A really bad job could seriously hurt the resale value.

It's one of those "Wouldn't it be cool if..." ideas that 10 minutes after you drill or rout the axe...it ain't so cool. Been there, done that.

The LP doesn't put me in a tapping mood I guess. Now my Kramer, that's another story...lol.

This is the key to the tapping issue and alleged LP toggle switch problems. :22:

Tapping just shouldn't be allowed on Les Pauls. Stick to proper blues/rock, don't get any fancy ideas and all will be fine. :dammit: ;)

Yah.

Innovation is sooooo overrated...

I find the LP switch much easier to change on the fly than blade style switches. And if you want to talk about poorly located controls, let's discuss the volume control on a typical strat and leave the LP toggle switch alone.

nice to know im not the only one...

I don't know what it takes to do some thinking, mate. Just unscrew that small plastic cover of pickup selector, the remaining piece of hardware won't raise you any problems. I've done that myself.

Re: Moving toggle switch on Les Paul

just leave the original switch there disconnected and put the new switch wherever you want. The rotary knob suggestion is a good one if you like that type of selector as you can add splits as well.
