Depending on where I'm tapping it hits me in the wrist, so I end up not tapping as much on the LP and I don't do all that much tapping anyway.
It's not a huge deal to move all that stuff...but since you need to make the hole bigger, be REALLY REALLY sure that you want to do that and the safest bet is to bring the guitar to a luthier and NOT a Joe Blow repair shop. The best of the best can plug the hole and refinish that area to the degree where it looks almost totally stock. Personally, I'd leave the switch where it is and put in a mini-toggle or push/pull and not muck around with drilling holes. A really bad job could seriously hurt the resale value.
It's one of those "Wouldn't it be cool if..." ideas that 10 minutes after you drill or rout the axe...it ain't so cool. Been there, done that.
