Murphy Soap Oil

Re: Murphy Soap Oil

So, I guess a bit of murphy oil with hot water and a cloth dumped into it would not harm my meck?

Re: Murphy Soap Oil

Save your Murphy's Oil Soap for cleaning tolex and vinyl and leather upholstery. That stuff miraculously erases dirt and grime in crevices. You can make an old white leather sofa look like new again with Murphys, warm water, and a sponge.

Ok, but if I do will hurt my maple, no fretboard, little finish neck?

Re: Murphy Soap Oil

I use Murphys to clean the neck of my maple/rosewood music man- the official video from music man actually tells you to use it (and shows how in the video) For those that haven't played these necks, they use a wax/oil blend on them and not poly or nitro. You don't use a lot (maybe a quarter-size amount on a paper towel), but it works very well.

Re: Murphy Soap Oil

Why was that guy using 600 grit to sand the back of the neck? I know 600 grit is considered fine by most but it is still taking off wood. Why not use 1000/2000 grit. Better to be safe than sorry. He is after all just cleaning the back of the neck not trying to remove a poly finish to give it a satin finish...

Re: Murphy Soap Oil

There is no finish, satin nor poly on the back of MM necks- just plain wood, with gunstock wax on it. He uses 600 grit, then 1000 grit. It works really well- feels like glass when it is done.
