I rarely buy anything without playing it first, but it's often cheaper to try at a store and buy online.

thats what i do. ive ordered my marshall combo and a fender bass from them. i tried both these out and bought them online. i received them in perfect condition. i ahve also bought countless number of accesories from mf and music 123. i havent had any problems with them. oh i also purcahsed my ampeg j12t from mf. no problems with that either.

I've been dealing with them since the late 70s when they were still in El Cajon, CA. I've got no complaints.

I have dealt with them for years (about 17). I have no complaints. However, I have found the service to be better at American Musical Supply (americanmusical.com). Yet, the absolute best mail/web-order service I have found has to be at

sweetwater.com

Robb (GoMano) recommended them months ago. I have place a couple of orders with them, emailed them for info, spoke to them on the phone, and these are by FAR the nicest, friendliest, and most helpful equipment salemen I have encountered (even better than local retailers). Check 'em out.

the only trouble i have had with MF is shipping issues. I have ordered a few things and paid for next day delivery and they don't get my item sent out in time, so i ended up paying 40-50 for something i could have got for free (3 day delivery). They did eventually refund my shipping after i bitched about it and talked to about 10 diffrent people. I seem to be ordering more from AMS lately. The thing i like about AMS is there EZpayment plan... interest free 3 or 5 payments.... thats who i bought my laptop from.

Have not ordered a ton from them but have ordered a couple guitars. As well as from WWBW and Music123.

MF had the "poorest" service reps...attitude-wise, but it was nothing major. Music123 and WWBW though have always provided me with excellent service, very friendly.

I would prefer to buy locally from a mom & pop store cos I like to support small business. And I do buy some stuff, or certain items locally (like my McCarty). But the online return policy is a HUGE attraction for me. Local stores do NOT have a return poilcy... if ya get suttin back home or to practice and don't care for the sound or whatever, oh well..too bad, so sad... (and stuff always sounds better in a music store than home).

I've got a couple really nice guitars online, and I've sent a couple back that had issues. No biggie for me.

My newest axe (Firebird) is from MF. Its a keeper but if the tone or whatnot wasn't there, I could send it back and get another, something diff, or a refund. Can't beat that....

i like music123 because they seem to have a lot more inventory or whatever. MF doesnt carry all the SD pups but i think music123 does.

I buy pickups and accessories from MF, but I don't think I could ever buy a guitar without having played it first.

I would never order a guitar for the same reasons as everyone else here already said--you have to play them first. That's a must. As for Musician's Friend, I've had nothing but good experiences buying from them. Usually when I place an order I get it 3 or 4 days later. That's pretty cool.
