Must be something wrong with me.....

First of all, Ive NEVER been a fan of hollow bodies... Let alone ones with a Bigsby type trem...
But I played an Ibanez AF75T today that I had an absolute blast with!!
The guitar was made very well, played fantastic and I liked that it had some accoustic tone to it without being as loud as a regular accoustic.

Im just stunned that I even reached for it and even more stunned that I really want one!!

Was kinda like this one, only it was white with gold hardware..

Those are pretty neat. They get even better once somebody takes the time to set them up REALLY well (matching the bridge to the top radius et al).

Re: Must be something wrong with me.....

I bought one a few years back in wine Red. I went in fully intending to pick up a 339 as a graduation present to myself. I couldn’t put the 75 down!! I added a covered 59n and white PG+ and covered so much ground.

Re: Must be something wrong with me.....

That's a fun guitar. I've really been loving my Godin semi-hollow lately.

Re: Must be something wrong with me.....

Ain't nothing wrong with semi-hollow guitars. After all, they were the happening rig before solidbody guitars made the scene.

Re: Must be something wrong with me.....

I love my 339 and sometimes I wish I'd bought something with a Bigsby, like a Swingster.

Hollowbodies just sound and feel terrific.

Re: Must be something wrong with me.....

I love the Bigsby on my 335.

I had one on my SG for a while, but it never wanted to properly return to pitch. I just bought a roller bridge for it, and I'll be trying that at the next string change.

Re: Must be something wrong with me.....

Ibanez makes some great semi-hollows, I really love my Artcore AS83. I’m not surprised that playing one turned you into a believer! [emoji16]

BloodRose, I simply cannot believe what I'm reading. I thought you were firmly entrenched with your super strats playing 80's Rock. My mental image of you is forever shattered.

Although, I do admit to having a bit of 335 gas. Nothing a Tums won't cure, but it keeps coming back. Maybe it's old age?

335s are cool.

When I first started playing I thought they were 'ugly old man' guitars and wouldn't go anywhere near them. It was years before I plugged one in, and I became a believer that day. I got my hands on the ES-335 Fatneck in post #7 roughly 6 years ago and it's been one of my favorite guitars ever since.

Re: Must be something wrong with me.....

I have a fetish for semi hollows myself
Hey might I suggest trying a Dean Shire semi hollow with piezo

It clicked all my boxes

I know bro.. Im sooooo ashamed... Thats why it blew my mind so much.. I usually wont even pick something like that up.. But I did and I liked it..
Sorry to have shattered my image.. I must be getting old.. HOWEVER.... Metal and shredsticks and pointies are still my passion!! i have a tele, but it rarely gets played...

Re: Must be something wrong with me.....

Can't say I've ever gassed for a 335 myself ..but I did pick up a semi-hollow that I thought was a great compromise design-wise. Not too 'grand-pa' nor really 'all out metal', but somewhere in the middle ...namely my 'Grote' which is frankly a very individualistic design (despite being cheap & Chinese) :D

While you're being more adventurous than I'd be willing to be haha...I think you'll love the difference in feel & sound of these things (semi-hollows). They're definitely a whole new sound, with a softer attack & awesome woody tone. But in case you're wondering ...yes. they will do 80's metal just fine as well (at least my Grote does) if the need should arise :lmao:

BloodRose = He kissed a girl (semi-hollow) and he liked it!

Yeah, right.. I just got griped at earlier for spending $22 on a printer for the computer.. We are trying to get a house, so Id be shot (seriously, spouse has a 9mm and a bad temper) if I bought a guitar...

Re: Must be something wrong with me.....

Next thing you know, you'll turn down the distortion and start using the volume and tone knobs on the guitar, too! :)

Re: Must be something wrong with me.....

Buy it and hide it. No, I mean the gun.

And put the guitar at your best friend's house (who REALLY needs your help).

Worst comes to worst, remind her she can't buy the house without you so she can't kill you. Or seriously maim you, coz it don't pay.
