Re: Mustang project?

Thinking if I should get the Ant JB. I might have to.

...Scored it haha.

Re: Mustang project?

Just pulled the mag from the Ant JB and it's certainly not roughcast. It's weathered but smooth. Doing surgery. Gonna turn it into a 3 conductor, change the baseplate, and put in a double thick A6. The double thick A2 and 3 are still on the way.

Re: Mustang project?

Got the pickups all together took about 3-4 hours. Ant JB with double thick A6, short leg baseplate, and 3 conductor. Ant Mustang stag mag.

Re: Mustang project?

You should replace the screws on that bridge pickup, they're getting kinda grubby looking.

Re: Mustang project?

Noone will probably reply but I'll ask: How do you reckon I should wire the mustang to split to the south top coil and be in phase with the JB? I'm wiring the JB stock. Black to hot, green to ground, and the red will split it to the north slug coil. I would probably be able to figure it out, but I forgot to note which colors were the start and finish when I was assembling it. And all the diagrams I see are all goofy and I can't tell from them either.

Re: Mustang project?

So it would be south finish to hot, north finish to ground, and the starts to the spin a split?? Which colors are which on the mustangs?

Re: Mustang project?

are you talking about the mustang stagmag or the jb? the mustang, i have no idea since you made it. which pup is where?

Re: Mustang project?

Thx for chiming in. I wrote all the details in post 69. Picture is post 66. I didn't change the leads at all on the Mustang stag mag, just stuck them on an hb baseplate. Let me know if you need more details. If you could just tell me which leads are the start and finish, that would be helpful.

Re: Mustang project?

what are the wires colors on the mustang pups? usually start would go to ground and finish would be hot. yellow and blue or ? you didnt answer my question and it isnt in the posts you listed. there are two mustang pups, which pup is where? neck model towards the neck or towards the bridge?

Re: Mustang project?

The orientation of a humbucker makes no difference to its phase relationship with itself or the other pup. Just magnetic and electrical polarity. But the south bridge mustang is going to be on the top and the north neck mustang is going to be on the bottom. The neck mustang has a yellow and blue lead, and the bridge mustang has a white (parchment) and blue lead. I'm thinking about wiring the mustang how I wrote in post 70 and diagrammed in post 69 but I don't know which leads are the start and finish on the mustangs.

Re: Mustang project?

So I'm gonna go with parchment to hot, yellow to ground, and the blues in series to the spin a split.

Re: Mustang project?

Got the wiring all sorted and everything's in phase and hum cancelling. It only took 2 tries. It ended up being parchment to hot, yellow and blue to the spin o split, and blue to ground. The pickguard arrives tomorrow and I just have to install that and set it up! 2 1/2 month Mustang project!!

Re: Mustang project?

Holy **** son. Everything works, miraculously. I'm blown away with the pups. It sounds like a Mustang from the 60s.

No more friggin guitars after this. I have more toubleshooting to do tomorrow. The baseplate on the stag mag isn't grounded and is contacting the leads on the bottom of the single coils so I'll have to go in and rebuild the stag mag and put tape in between the baseplate and the sc leads then ground the baseplate because it's pretty noisy. Hopefully that helps.
