Re: mxr carbon copy? (digital or analog or both)

2 chip analog delay...

though i dont remember exactly what chips it uses. it is dark.

Re: mxr carbon copy? (digital or analog or both)

The price would probably tell you. Digital are usually much more expensive.
That's why I bought an analog delay[not an MXR].

Usually digital is much cheaper then analog its only complex digital designs that are more expensive (true bypas tap tempo subdivisions, tone controls, led readouts etc)

You could've fooled me! I just did an online search and the digitals are more expensive than the analogs, even second hand.It was that way when i bought mine about six years ago except the gap was bigger.

what delay is it?
I use an Arion SAD-3. I found a second hand SAD-1 online for Aus$120. I paid just under Aus$100 for my SAD-3
The same things in the USA go for US$30.
I can't find any digital delays under Aus$200
We get shafted on gear prices here.

From the Dunlop site.

The MXR Carbon Copy Analog Delay features a completely analog audio path for the ultimate in rich, warm delay—made possible only by old-school bucket brigade technology. This design boasts an amazing 600ms of delay time with optional modulation via a top-mounted switch and a simple, three-knob layout that controls Delay time, Mix (dry/wet blend), and Regen (delay repeats)—all in a pedal no bigger than a Phase 90. In addition, two internal trim pots offer user-adjustable width and rate control of the modulation for even more tonal options. The Carbon Copy will take you from crisp “bathroom” slap echoes to epic, Gilmour-esque delays with a twist of a knob. True hardwire bypass, single 9-volt operation, and stage-ready blue LEDs round out the package. Available only from Dunlop Manufacturing, the world’s leader in analog pedal technology.

Re: mxr carbon copy? (digital or analog or both)

Tempting. I've always found other delays to be too BRIGHT.

Re: mxr carbon copy? (digital or analog or both)

I have a carbon copy and with my 18 watter it sounds really cool. It is dark but I like the way it sounds. You can use it almost like reverb or it's also great for slap back. And the slight modulation it can do gives cleans a really nice sound.

Oh one drawback is it kills batteries kind of fast - but the light stays bright. So the tone goes downhill but the light never changes. I use an adapter.

I just got the carbon copy and love it. Way better then the digitech digidelay i was using.

Re: mxr carbon copy? (digital or analog or both)

I have an MXR carbon copy and use it live in place of my EP-3 echoplex. I REALLY like that pedal. If you think it is too dark, I'd say try a real tape delay out for size. I find the Carbon Copy to do a pretty good tape delay sound. The modulation on mine is a bit over the top however, but I'm too lazy at the moment to mess with the internal trimpots to tame it and make it more reasonable. I highly recommend the carbon copy, it is one heck of a pedal.

AFAIK all analog delays are far far more expensive than digi units.
Just look at the MOOG MF104Z & Fulltone Tube Tape Echo (fancy word for delay). Those two alone, are $800.00 & $1200.00 respectively !

To the OP, the MXR is 100% all analog.
And i do not think the CC is dark at all !

Re: mxr carbon copy? (digital or analog or both)

I had a carbon copy for a few weeks. Although I liked it, it was too dark to be my one and only delay. I think I needed something more versatile, but didn't realize it until I had a chance to play it for a while. It's good at what it does, if that's what you want, and the small footprint is nice, too.

For me, the delays were too dark and the modulation was too subtle (and I did adjust the internal trimmer)...perhaps I was expecting Memory Man-style modulation, which it cannot do...I know that now, but this was back when the unit was relatively new on the market and there were not many reviews.

Although it did not work for me, I would certainly buy it again if I wanted a nice analog delay.

This was a bit of a rash statement based on my expereience D.U.

Looking at prices USA it seems Analog or Digital are similar in price and a s*** load cheaper than in OZ.

They appear to be more an exception from what i could find.

Re: mxr carbon copy? (digital or analog or both)

Seeing that we are covering all types of delay's here !

THIS is my fav digi delay by a mile :

VERY, VERY analog'y sounding.
And like the Yanks say, it is deff a "keeper" !!!

Now i want an EHX DMM !

GAS never ends . . . does it :D

Re: mxr carbon copy? (digital or analog or both)

i thought analog cost more (not the normal simple BBD circuits)

Yes they do, that is why a DD-6 cost more than an EHX DMM.
And the Boss has more features than the all analog Deluxe Memory Man, but i will take the EHX unit over the Boss every time.
In fact, if there is one Boss product that i do not like one bit, it would be their delay's.
