Re: MXR Envelope Filter and compressors
Gain and filtering often go in the the guitar chain (Distortions, volumes, compressors, wahs, envelope filters)
Time-based (reverbs, delays, phasers) usually go in the effects chain.
Different modulation effects work well in different setup situations. It's all your opinion.
Generally, I would put a compressor as the very first effect in the chain, as it's designed to regulate the peaks and dips in your playing dynamics and make everything a little more even. I noticed you listed an EQ, are you using it JUST for tone shaping or also a boost? If it's just a tone-related, I would put it before the compressor.
General rule of thumb places the compressor early in the chain. However, this crap is always subjective and YMMV.
