MXR Phase 90 shootout!

Re: MXR Phase 90 shootout!

My buddy who is the singer in our band is going to buy my EVH phaser for his classic rock band. My phaser days are done. I only used it for Rush and Van Halen covers, neither of which I will ever play again. A phaser is wasted on me. I used to use one but won't have a need for one again. I mostly just use delay and chorus now. I also like a good flanger for a more pronounced chorus effect.
This is great, selling my phaser and noise supressor because I no longer need them and can free up some cash!

Re: MXR Phase 90 shootout!

Since my block RI had been giving me fits, I stopped using it. There are times I miss it but I only used it for two songs in our set anyway and they still sound fine without it, so no hurry to replace.

Re: MXR Phase 90 shootout!

My MXR Micro Flanger is now on my board. My EVH Phaser which I love, is in the box for now.

Re: MXR Phase 90 shootout!

The block logo ones are harsher but stand out more in a mix.

The script ones are smoother but can get lost easily, particularly on the slower settings.

I prefer the block with distortion and the script with cleans into moderate OD.

Re: MXR Phase 90 shootout!

Haven't played the block logo or an EVH but am loving my script version with LED. What I like about it is that it gives a hint of colour without altering my overall tone or sapping gain. I usually have it at 9:00 for a slight mid emphasis when soloing and it's just right. Last time I used any fx was 10 years ago, so this has been a good way of getting back into it - with something that's fairly transparent.

I think Ed is just one of the biggest gear whores on the planet...

But whatever he did got that phaser right. Stripey paint job be dammed! People just love the thing.

And i have been phasing during my smooth Jazz outings lately!

I hear ya bro. I have used the EVH off and on for years but always come back to it! Everyone in my bands have agreed as well. I tried to like other phasers, but this one is just about perfect. :)

Script version with LED is the same as the EVH but nice thing about the EVH is you have two options!
