MXR Rockman Pedal

Well that's the issue. I see a lot of folks that seem to believe this unit was designed to plug right into an audio interface. If that's not the case, I think MXR should make that clear.

In the Anderson's review from NAMM
they asked the Dunlop guy this same question

they used it both ways

He said it sounds great plugged into a PA or straight to DAW
And plugged into an amp would "color" it in some way

Effects return
PA
Audio Interface

I think the confusion is there because of the marketing. It isn't clear from the teaser videos at all...it looks just like every other pedal.

Man, I really can't get into the sound on the vids, LOL. That sound is really taking the "guitar is a midrange instrument" approach to the extreme.

After listening to a few clips on Youtube, it did bring back some memories. I used to have an X100. I could possibly see getting one just for s&g if I can find one used in a few months. Or maybe open box.

The compression is different between Clean 1 and Clean 2 (or it could be the gain is goosed going into the compression on one of them?). One of them smashes more in an audible way.

OK, I get that. It has been so long, I didn't remember.

I'm really surprised that these seem to be selling so well: in Norway there is at present one left for sale in the entire country from what was at first a pretty decent stockpile. I'm not purchasing anything right now, but I hope these remain in production long enough for me to actually get one.

I would bet a lot of people are buying them simply for resale. MXR will likely keep producing them and they will be easier to find and less expensive on the secondary market. Patience Grasshopper.

True, but it was hard to interface it into a guitar>pedals>amp setup.

It was never meant to do that. Honestly, this really works best direct, not through an amp. That's the classic sound of this unit. The pedal format is an odd choice
