MXR Univibe

gotcha. i dont have one so didnt dig that deep but did spend some time with a friends h9. cool pedal for sure! somethings were easy to dial in and get a great sound, spent a fair amount of time with others and didnt get there. but its a new toy for me so im sure there is a learning curve

the reverbs and delays were awesome! i didnt love the rotary but i also didnt spend a ton of time tweaking it since it wasnt mine. a great univibe is a tough thing to get right and its really its own thing.

Is there any reason why they make these pedals so big? Is it just tradition, or do the components for authentic sound just take up a lot of space?

The Fulltone DejaVibe is the best most authentic sounding I've played through, and it's just a bit larger than normal pedal size. If it's all analog, there is an incandescent bulb and a bunch of transistors in there.

This is the one that gets the closest for reasonable cash that I've found.

mike said he was closing up shop but seems like they are still open for business so no idea

Not the the out of the box vibe/tremolo presets, but some of the people in the user's group have been chasing the UniVibe sound for years, and a couple of guys made some realistic patches with the Harmadillo and Phaser algorithm.

My Digitech RP-12 and 2112 SGS have very good Univibe programs and I have the original Univox Univibe to compare it to .

And Mom bought it for me for my Birthday / Christmas present, when I was 15 in 1979 .
It cost her $79.00 USD .

Eventide has a new spin on the Univibe I am not sure what the overdrive is based on.

Ready to be swept away? Introducing Riptide, the result of extensive research into the iconic Uni-Vibe and legendary overdrives. Whether you’re looking to ride the slow, vibey waves of lush modulation or dive headfirst into the pulsing depths of overdrive, Riptide invites you to play with power and attitude that’s unapologetically bold.

Riptide features not one, but two distinct voices for each effect, all delivered in glorious stereo. Plus, you can effortlessly transition from Drive into Vibe or Vibe into Drive. Let ‘er rip.
  • Four Effects: 2 Overdrives, 2 Uni-Vibes
  • Drive ⇆ Vibe at the press of a button
  • No Deep Dives: 3 Drive Knobs, 3 Vibe Knobs
  • Five presets at your feet — more available with Eventide Device Manager (EDM) software
  • Dual-action Active Footswitch is latching or momentary

I don't know man. I bought a univox superfuzz in the early 2000s for $85, sold it for like $200, now they're like $800 or whatever and I wish I still had it. Not just as an investment but because if I ever want one again it's way out of my price range.
