The blackouts are so loud, someone said they would be too bassy in an all mahogany guitar, but that is so not true! this thing is a beast on all frequencies, its incredibly loud! i dont see what the use for the blackout metal would be, unless you are just totally not going to use any distortion effects, and want to overdrive the amp totally with just the pickup. the blackouts are amazing dirty and perform well on clean, extremely agressive probably the most agressive pickup i have played. It definately blends well with any effects, its a true metal masterpeice! Thanks to seymour I now have a metal beast!

Awsome dude! I have an all "mahohogany"(check thread title) lp, and I have always been afraid to stick a pair in, because I to have been told it would be to bassy and dark.

Good to hear it works well.

haha ya i am a terrible speller! anyways the blackout pickups in my lp give total frequency boost and clarity, the cleans with some reverb are great too the bridge is great on clean but the neck is truly exceptional, total clarity and very sensitve. You can really hear your subtle finger movements and technique.the blackouts are like if you boosted everything, it sounds huge. I think when people think of bassy they may think that the treble strings would be warm and dull, but the treble strings are very trebly and the bass sounds bigger but clearer. I think when people say bassy it means that the frequency you hear the most is bassy, with the blackouts you hear bass/mid/treble all louder bigger and clearer. If i had to describe this pickup i would say its bassy middy and trebley and it will make your guitar sound bassy middy and trebley, but also huge and clear. unlike most pickups like JB or invader which are either bassy or just trebley, its just everything into one. If people were going to say it would be too bassy in an LP than guess it would be to trebley in an alder strat, or to middy in a basswood ibanez, obviously none of this is true. It sounds great in everything, dont worry that it has boosted lows,mids,and highs it makes up for it in clarity senitivity, harmonic richness, and versitality besides the full frequency boost is why its so amazing. Ill try to have some pics up soon! These p'ups are amazing I have no complaints or regrets it gave me hat I wanted; a rock/metal beast!

an epi LP sounds like it would be a good choice for these, i know with no effects on my marshall jcm 800 and a small combo amp i have it sounds great. with no effects, the neck p'up really shines over the bridge and with gain the bridge shines over the.Although, I have to say that it is a brilliant p'up with effects and high gain but I think anything is possible with these and tweaking with your amp. I definately recommend these for hard rock and metal though. :cool2:

Of course the Blackouts sound fantastic in a Les Paul, I was the first one in this forum to install them in my Les Paul. The tone is brutal beyond anything anyone has ever experienced before! This is the tone I've been looking for since I was 11 years old.
Not only did I get my wood tone back when I replaced the EMG pickups that were in there but with the Blackouts,
I now also have even more power than before. My cleans are still great but my distorted tones are ungodly. All that massive, thick, organic Les Paul tone with the intense power and clarity of an active pickup. The 11 year old in me is now a happy lil camper.

I have a Burny LP Custom that sustains eternally and plays and sounds amazing! Its 11 lbs of Les Paul joy! But, It is the 1st guitar Ive ever had with active pups in it and Im still out on them. (EMG Zakk wylde set) It rocks, but I do miss some of the organic warmth of my passive pups. Everytime I play it, I think, "sounds good now, wonder how it would sound with other pups?? Im thinking Very strongly about trying some blackouts in it. Would I have to do a full rewire? How would this change tonally?

the blackout metal seems a little one dimensional, the regular blackouts are so loud and have so much gain you dont really need the metal. If you just want to distort your amp with no effects and only want to play death metal, maybe it would be cool. It just seems the AHB-1 blackout are already metal machines and are very versatile they can take all the gain you throw at them and yet when you switch to clean they still have a nice warm organic tone. I think in other guitars I would just stick to regular AHB-1 blackouts because they are so amazing. with the blackout metal coming out people seem confused and may think AHB-1's are not agressive enough pickups, when actually they are probably one most powerful pickups on the market. They sing on leads and have all the metal crunch you can hope for. Put it this way thes p'ups are so loud on my little combo amp you could still hear the dirty channel on zero.

Not interested in those. I already heard them in the form of the LiveWire Metal.
It's the same basic pickup with the advancements of the Blackouts circuit.

I need clean tones too.
