My Charvel restoration

Re: My Charvel restoration

what happened to the original floyd that was on the orange version? were you able to salvage it?

Re: My Charvel restoration

Any reason why you didn't fill the vintage trem holes when restoring?

Looks awesome!!!

Re: My Charvel restoration

Wow, I have been following this guitar for years. It was purchased at Guitar Center SF in 82, after I had for 6 years, a luthier in Novato, CA (Phillip Ralphs) refinished and changed the bridge. It sure looks beautiful now!

That's crazy cool!

Welcome btw! :D

Re: My Charvel restoration

Yeah! I want to know more about Bob Gilles tracking down his old guitar.

Did you Google 82 Charvel and stumble upon this thread?

Re: My Charvel restoration

Oh wow, I think that is supposed to be it in the picture. I emailed the guy to see if he has any other information about it.

Still my number one guitar.

Re: My Charvel restoration

I know this is an old thread, but Aryton, that guitar is a thing of beauty! Great work as usual. :)

Re: My Charvel restoration

Hope it's not to late to ask, but where did you solder the ground? i don't see it on the claw.

Welcome to Duncan land!

The ground is there, you can barely see it in that pic. The solder point is on the underside of the claw.

Re: My Charvel restoration

Keep us posted on if he replies. I think that was the guitar too. see if he has any closer pics. Must be a killer axe for him to follow it all this time.

We exchanged a couple of emails, but not much more info on the guitar. Apparently Neil Schon had nice things to say about it.

Re: My Charvel restoration

Great job. I don't know if I would have had the balls to do it myself. That's one fabulous maple body and neck.

Do you think the rounded heal might have been to mount the neck in a strat at one point in time?

Also curious about the swap from the 78 to the JB. What tone difference did you notice? What tone were you after?

Also, where do you purchase that oil for the neck?

Thanks.

Re: My Charvel restoration

The neck would have fit a strat either way, so no idea on that.

I tried the '78 in several guitars and I just don't care for it. The JB tends to work well in brighter guitars, and this was no exception.

Watco oil can be purchased at any decent home center or online.

Re: My Charvel restoration

Sorry to bother, but what color Watco - natural or golden oak?

Also, I found some for $17.99 a quart - does that sound like too much?

Re: My Charvel restoration

Beautiful, but why both string trees? The one behind the nut makes the other one kind of redundant.

Because the original is still on the headstock.

Don, I used Golden Oak, and I think it is about $10 @ Lowes.
