My Custom Shop experience!

OK - so the guitar is out of the bag.

I ordered a Pearly Gates bridge, 4 conductor, Zebra, wound to 9.1-9.3k

This is pretty much a copy of the pickup I made at User Group day that I have in my #1 Cherry Sunburst Caddy.

Those extra few winds add just a little bit more oomph, fatness, and less high end that is just perfect to me. I think a lot of PG haters would really like this. Anyway, it's going in my new and last Les Paul in a month or so when it shows up.

Bonus I happen to have a Zebra neck just laying around to go with it.

Just updating post Christmas.

No word at all, but I wasn't expecting one. Meanwhile, just playing the guitar.

Maybe I'll take some sound samples before/after.

Yeah, I don't know when the Custom Shop will be back to work. My guess is they got orders over Christmas, so it is a good thing you put your order in before.

yeah, i assume youll be waiting a bit more than two weeks for an update but the cs has always done great work for me

So, here we are about 3 1/2 weeks in. No word yet, but no word expected either.

Really excited because I'm really loving the guitar. My ears are getting used to the 57's in there.

And look what came in the email today! One month and a couple of days. Of course, wasn't asking for anything exotic or confusing. Exciting times! I have been playing Irish quite a bit. I need to make a recording of some basic sounds so we can pre/post the pickups.

The 57/57 Plus combo has really grown on me. I'd consider them a close second to BB1/2 or BB 2/3's for classic Les Paul PAF sounds. That said - still don't care. Pearly Gates all day everyday!

So far the process - which occurred in ~2hrs or less was:

** It appears you need a Seymour Duncan account to do this. No biggie, I made one (not a forum account)

1. Wanted a particular pickup (nothing fancy, but not a stock offering)

2. Filled out the contact us form on SD Custom Shop site.

3. Heard back from Jeff very quickly (same day) who
- Provided me with a very helpful diagram
- Sent a "filled out" request form based on my initial request

4. I followed the link he sent with that and edited the form myself
- It asked some really good questions about things I assumed, but should not like potting, conductors, pole material etc.

5. I submitted the form with my edits and paid via PayPal
~$200 all in.

Now it is 4-6 weeks or whatever until it arrives at my house.

I did not get the chance to speak with MJ or anyone, and based on the request I doubt I will. I did say "Hi" in the comments box though when submitting the form.
So far pretty easy...

You can choose pole material? Did they give you options? If so, what were they?

what is this thread? someone ordered some CS pickups and then waited and then they shipped? yeah that's how my order went too, except it was 5 weeks before they shipped. :dunno:

Just chronicling the journey man... which is nearly over.

To be fair, there are a lot of people out there that don't know what ordering a Custom Shop pickup is like.
