My Dime tone attempt

Re: My Dime tone attempt

You guys gotta remember Rex's bass gave Dime even more low end.

You really got that gritty palm mutey tone down pretty well man. I am sure the youtube compression took a little highs out too.

Sounds good man.

Yeah! Rex is one of the factors of dime sound. I really respect him now. His playing was so tight with Vinnie, also gave dime a room to shine.
Yes, the original file has more highs and low as well :)

Thanks brother!

Re: My Dime tone attempt

BUGGER . . . now i want a Randal of some sorts too :D

If you like tube tones I will suggest the Diavlo series. They a full tubes amp with a very good price. Ranges from 1 watt to 100 watt. I own the 5 watts, and the 20 watts.
Sounds very sweet, and crushing. :)
If you like solid state, go for RG series. And if you like Hybrid, this T2HL is the beast. too bad it's discontinued, but amazon and ebay still have it :)

See where this Forum is getting me deeper, and deeper into the rabbit-hole !!! (?)

I just emailed a seller about a Randall. Oh dear :eyecrazy::crazy::omg:

The Randall in question is an RG50TC.

Does anyone know anything about this Randall model ?

It is not on their site any more.

Re: My Dime tone attempt

Just using two mic at the same time. Two Shure SM 57.
I double tracked it so it creates 4 layers. panned 2 right, and two left.
And that's just it. No effects at all.
The real secret behind it is the picking hand. You should angle your palm at some certain position to get the desired chunk :)

Cool, but I'm just as interested as to how to get such a clear recording as I am to playing it. What Randall setup is that?

I keep trying to tell my guitarist that. He won't hear of it.

Bro, english is not my language so I don't really understand the question. LOL. here's my attempt on answering it :)

To get clear recording? nothing different with other technique. What you see in the video is what i exactly put the amp, the computer speaker, the computer, etc. No seperate room for cabinet, no noise gate, nothing. All you need is to play it really tight. The first track has to sound exactly the same with the second track (I didnt play that tight though LOL).

For setup, I just use Randall T2HL through Randall XJ cabinet, loaded with jaguar speakers. I only use mono side, so it's only right side of the amp that is used. First mic on the upper speaker, second mic for the bottem speaker. The mic is angled a little bit.

Let me know if that's not the answer you are looking for :)
