My duncan distortion review

i just had my schecter (mahogany/maple) installed with the distortion pickup and it sounds phenomenal!! crystal clear under high-gain and sounds very chunky and thick. Alot of people say that this pickup has crazy harmonics, but the truth is that all the pickups are the same when it comes to harmonics....it all depends on you're technique. This pickup sounds amazing for both rhythm and lead, it's very emg-81 like in the sense that it sounds very "rough" unlike the sweet and smooth JB, which makes it a good pickup for the heavier sub-genres of metal. The only bad thing about this pickup is that it is very noisy, almost to the point where i can not control the feedback (even with a noise gate), but that might be due to the low action and crappy amp. In conclusion, this pickup is an amazing bridge pickup (the neck sucks) for all types of metal and has an old school thrashy vibe to it, it's chunky, bright, and will do its best in mahogany bodied guitars. If you're not sure about getting this pickup, i will just name a few artists who uses it and you can listen to their stuff and decide for yourself.
1- Guy Marchais from suffocation!!
2-Infernus and Tormentor from gorgoroth (they mostly use stock gibson pups though)
3-Glen Drover from megadeth and king diamond
4-Gus.G from firewind
5-Wayne static from static x

Re: My duncan distortion review

I love the Duncan Distortion!!!!

I have many...in guitars such as:
Several Les Pauls, 2 Explorers, 3 SG's, 3 PRS McCarty's....yep, Mahogany stuff!

Good review. I agree, the Distortion rocks in mahogany. I am, however, in a different camp on the "all pickups are the same w/harmonics". Take a PAF Pro & Fred, for example. Same make, same magnet, same output, yet the Fred is noticeably more harmonic-happy IME.

Thanks for the review but can't say I agree with the statement above. There are many ways to create harmonics (pinch, tap, natural..etc) When it come to natural harmonic pickups really affect the results IMO. It also depends on the way that guitar is constructed as well.
