My first NAD in a long time- Magnatone Tonemaster Clone

I have always had a soft spot for true pitch shifting vibrato. Naturally, I have always admired old Magnatone amps with their sweet true vibrato. The Magnatone Tonemaster is a 15ish watt, 2x6V6 amp with real vibrato (not tremolo). That's what my amp is a clone of. It has a couple of slight variations on the original, but no real tweaks in the circuit/tone of the amp.

I have to say that it sits perfect between my Vibrolux Reverb and tweed Champ clone and I could quickly see it replacing my Champ as my main workhorse. It just oozes tone in spades. It can be clean, but not like my VR, clean; different, ya know. I can crank it and get ridiculous overdrive/rock tones that are very distinct and different from my cranked Champ tones. I totally find "me" in this amp where some amps I have bought and sold over the years where just a bust for one reason or another.

Oh, and that vibrato is just so oowey, gooey delicious and beautiful. I MUST get clips of this amp! I am literally blown away by it. I actually quit buying and flipping amps because nothing was blowing me away anymore. This amp DOES blow me away!

Enjoy: :naughty:

Your description of the amp makes it sound great. I'd love to hear that vibrato. I think the Brown and Blonde Bandmasters had that type of true vibrato.

In any case, your amp reminds me of a Browning High Power.

That is the coolest enclosure & footswitch ever. Have you tried it with the safety off?

Obviously not my amp, but here is an example of what the vibrato on my amp sounds like:

Re: My first NAD in a long time- Magnatone Tonemaster Clone

So after a few days playing this amp I can't find much wrong with the tone. If you have never rocked an old Magnatone, you owe it to yourself to try one. WOW!!!

What a beautiful sounding amp! Very very nice indeed, and yours is just about one of the coolest enclosures I've ever seen.... congrats, I'm glad it hits the spot for you.

Re: My first NAD in a long time- Magnatone Tonemaster Clone

And the best part is that you can use the footswitch to hold doors open.

Cool stuff...fresh from Canada I assume or did you buy it second hand?

I had seen a run of these Kevin did a while back so I looked him up and at first he said he wasnt building them anymore. He then contacted me and said he come upon some old iron. The rest is history. I am thrilled with the tone. It really sounds great.

I thought the initial pic was a joke, that's wild! The vibrato setting would be great to zone out on.
