My friend has really sweat palms - part II

So as some of you guys may remember, a few months ago I made a thread about my friend with extremely corrosive sweat and how that killed his bridge pickup. Well, the guy now wants to sell that guitar, so I've taken it in for a setup and cleaning. Here's a sneak peek:

I'll post more pics when I get to cleaning it later today, so stay tuned!

What's with the warped pup ring ?
Does he take Psych. drugs ? They can make your sweat corrode like that.

Re: My friend has really sweat palms - part II

as I mentioned in the first thread, the pickup screws were too rusty to turn so we had to break the pickup ring to be able to remove the pickup, afterwards he slapped a gibson ring on it that obviously didn't fit and just left it like that.

now for more pics:

what the hardware's colour is SUPPOSED to look like

it took me quite a while to get the bridge off since the left post (where he rests his palm on for palm-muting) was PETRIFIED by the rust, and yes those saddles have been melted by his sweat.

green tuning pegs, at first I thought the tuners had a satin finish on them, after a little wiping I realized that they were once shiny.

If you guys have ever wondered what a guitar would look like dipped in sea water for a long period of time, now you know.

Re: My friend has really sweat palms - part II

Did he lick 9 volt batteries as a kid or something?
That is insane! He is literally caustic lol!

There is no way his strings make it thru a show..

Re: My friend has really sweat palms - part II

Obviously, he has never made a habit of wiping the guitar down after he is through playing it.

It's only an Epiphone. No big deal.

Re: My friend has really sweat palms - part II

Your toxic friend could make a fortune aging guitar parts. Stroke each for a minute et voilà.

he does, it's just that he practices with that thing so much everyday. the guy intended for it to be a straight-up workhorse after all. for rehearsals, gigs and recordings he uses his gibsons.

I stand corrected.

That is just crazy...like is everything else that he touches destroyed like that or just this guitar?

He should wipe down his strings and hardware with WD-40 or something...

Re: My friend has really sweat palms - part II

Any idea what the humidity is like where he plays and keeps that guitar?

Re: My friend has really sweat palms - part II

Is it really worth putting that much effort and money into THAT guitar to clean it up for sale?

EDIT: Wait, are you in Vietnam? If so, that would explain a lot, especially the humidity...

Rory Gallagher was like that too... He had a lot of alkaline in his sweat... By the way, the green stuff is organic material that has rotted... So its skin and oil all over that guitar...

So you may want to soak all that stuff to sanitize it first.

Re: My friend has really sweat palms - part II

yeah it's humid here in Vietnam but his hands are something else.
also I'm almost finished cleaning the damn thing, I'll post pictures of the transformation soon lol

Re: My friend has really sweat palms - part II

That is friggin disgusting. He needs to wash his hands more often, clean his guitar more often or at least wipe it down after playing, change his strings more often, brush his teeth, shower, change his diet and move to somewhere less humid.
That pickup surround just screams "slob" if he cant even be bothered to screw in in straight.
Imagine how his girlfriend must look.
