my gear

Re: my gear

If you ballpark $1500 per guitar, conservatively, you get $45,000 worth of guitars.

If you ballpark $10,000 for the amps, that's $55,000 worth of gear. :bling:

I would never criticize anyone's use of their money though, especially when it's cool. I have $15,000 worth of minivan in my driveway

We all know there is a sense of jealousy / why? / how? pervading every orpheo thread, because he has lots of gear and almost all of it is drool worthy. But it's definitely not productive or helpful to criticize his possession of these instruments. Everybody leads their own life and it's cool. If everyone was just like me on this board, I wouldn't have any fun posting here. It's the variety of characters that makes it cool (and useful).

I definitely wasn't criticising how he chooses to spend his money, nor did I mean to offend orpheo, of course I'd spend it the same way if I had the disposable income. I was just noting that he has spent a LOT of money on his collection, and that very few people could afford to spend ~$55,000 on their rig at age 26.

Re: my gear

I didn't mean to rebuff you individually --- I just know that orpheo's collection boggles us all and was trying to break up some tension about it

Re: my gear

for a small pub gig I bring along 2 100 watt heads, the afd100 or my 5150, and a mark 3 green stripe for my cleans, and 5 guitarsp; my 3 crimsons (2 solidbody stoptail 1 hollowbody) and my 2 floyd'd les pauls.

for a big gig, same guitars, but now I bring my peavey, mark 3, marshall JMP and modded marshall. a kinda-bonamassa rig, only suited to my needs. the jmp is always on, the peavey is added for high gain, the mark for juicy leads and the modded marshall for more midrange edge. again, a bit like bonamassa, only I don't really 100% like dumble clone amps. i am more of a marshall guy. hell, that modded marshall only lacks a bit of gain and a reverb circuit (tank is already there, it's an artiste in its origin) and then that amp would be my go-to amp for 90% of my tones. but since it lacks those features, I use the 5150 or afd100 alternating for my main sounds. the JMP is my favorite amp EVER, but completely useless in any application except huge rooms, cause it's so god darned loud. not only that, it cuts through the mix so terribly well, all others have to crank up their game so hard, it just isn't funny anymore. so, there is a thing as 'cutting through the mix too well'.

about the money. i worked since I was sixteen a minimum of 3 days a week, 52 weeks a year. I started collecting since i was 18. I could spend all my money on guitars cause I had nothing else to spend it on. again: no social life, or something like that, haha.

right now I'm getting a feeling of 'done'. Everytime I leave the country I bring along to my parents house the 2 amps I can't go without, and the guitars I can't go without. it's always the same guitars. always the guitars with thick necks, and with woods that are just unique in every way, like single piece quilt maple, or special inlay, single piece padouk, purpleheart, etc etc. I don't 'need' 30 guitars, it's a shame, and a waste, but I have issues letting things go, orr so I've been told, haha. I could easily go with just the 5 guitars I described earlier, maybe with the charvel, my 2 gibsons, and 5 other warmoths I own. those gibsons have a nostalgic reason (and one is a '76 custom with original case; those things tend to rise in value) and the other gibson was a gift by my grandmother. The other 5 warmoths are just strange, unique guitars. (no, 6, actually). my first warmoth, my second warmoth (purplemist burst, and transparant purple witth both brazilian RW necks and boards, and custom inlay). 2 others have a figured koa top, and 2 others a singlepiece maple cap, one is quilt, other is a supertight flame.

oh wait. to more. padouk on wenge LP and a purpleheart on rosewood LP. both singlepiece tops.

still, that's less than 50%...

3 days a week isnt exactly a grueling work schedule...

it is if you are just 16, and go to school 5 days a week, 8 hours a day. I would work saterday and sunday, either both a twelve hour shift (which is considered to be a '3 day workweek' here) or for those days just twice 8 hours, and on friday also 8 hours (starting at 5 PM until 1 AM). during 'spring break' and summer break i'd work 6 days a week, 12 hours a day. in those days, that was still 'allowed'. unfortunately times have changed and I can't work as long or as much anymore.

I grew up on farm where i usually worked before and after school during the growing season so sorry not much sympathy from here but anyways a pissing contest wasnt my intention. Theres lots of different people with different stations in life.

Wow, I had to read this a couple times. I just did a small pub gig with my 12w 5e3 clone and the sound guy forced me to turn it down to the point where it was on the edge of falling off to zero volume. I kid you not. Needless to say I was not pleased with my tone all night.

those kind of guys will be kindly requested to go take a long, long hike ;)

the middle stack? thats on top a 5150 custom(ized) and below it's a marshall JMP 2203, modded (albeit slightly) but a custom headcase cause the old one was destroyed.

Must be something that works in clubs in the NL. The sound guy can make your life miserable and good chance it would effect you ever getting hired again.

Don't know how it's over there, but sound guys are mostly just bar tenders who 'decide' how loud it can be, no background or professionalism whatsoever. Only the bigger gigs where you have less problems with volume by default are being run by really good, professional guys.
