It was cold for a while, and we did have the heat on....that's probably it.

if I want to get it fixed with burn it sticks, what am I looking at in $$$? Just the labor to do it? Does it take long?

Reviving five year old thread....

ended up selling this explorer for $100 more than I paid for it! Checking didn't matter, some folks really want a lefty studio explorer!

Re: my guitar's paint is cracking - WTF?

In the future, if you have a nitro finish, you can re-amalgamate the lacquer with a solvent like Behlen's Qualalac or Blush Eraser. The active ingredient is Cellosolve which is a direct solvent for nitrocellulose. Cellosolve allows the cracked nitro to become liquid and re-amalgamate into the other nitro layers. Since nitrocellulose lacquer melts into each other, this is a great way to stop checking in it's tracks.

Just use enough amalgamate to get it going, but not so much that you cause the nitro to shift or run.

Cellosolve is also an instant brain killer and known carcinogen, so use it outdoors and wear a repirator when applying it.

Re: my guitar's paint is cracking - WTF?

It isn't poor finishing by Gibson. It's the nature of nitrocellulose. I've got a 73 LPC with hardly any checks at all yet my Kaufman EN-V is covered with them, especially the headstock. Roll with it or sell it...it's only going to progress.

Edit: holy crap. I didn't notice this was thread necromancy!
