My Ibanez RG421 rocks!

Today I saw my RG sitting loney at a corner. It's been a while since I gave it some love. So I picked it up, cleaned it up throughly, waxed it and restrung it. Also, I ajusted action and intonation (gotta love hardtail). It has JB and Jazz combo. I raised the pickups closer to the strings. I pluged it in to my amp.

My RG has basswood body with string trhough bridge. JB and Jazz sounded awesome in that guitar. Sweet and Juicy. JB pushes the amp rather nice, resulting in great rock sound. I tried a lot of pickups in that guitar with several Dimarzios but I got the best result from JB/Jazz.

I felt sorry for having tried to get rid of it. :)

I also have one. It's almost the same as yours except for the graphite nut and the dimarzio air norton and tone zone pu's. It's probably one of the best-sounding and most playable guitars ibanez has ever made. I got inspired to look for one by a paul gilbert show here in manila 4 years ago. He used a protoype fixed-bridge version of his signature guitar during the first 3 or 4 songs. When he switched to a trem-equipped guitar, you could hear the difference that it made. His tone became thinner that is very obvious when he uses a clean tone. I think it's also one of the reasons he's used fixed-bridge rg's in his elven thousand notes dvd. Fixed-bridge rg's with the right pu's really rock.

that's too cool! i can't wait till i have enough guitars to have one that's not played that much to rediscover again!!! LOL!!!

I have one and like it a lot...good tone and playability, and NO floyd!

By the way, not to hijack the thread but did they briefly make the 421 in Japan then switch to Korea? I bought mine shortly after they came out, it says Japan on the
back of the headstock...then about a month later I saw one at the store, picked it up and it said Korea....then about a month ago I saw a mahagony 421 and it said Indonesia....

any info?

the 421 was made in japan and has since been discontinued

the 321 was made in korea and is still being produced

the mahogany one you saw was probably a 321.

the only difference is where they were made and the electronics.

Sweet Brisk!!!! I am glad you are liking it now!!!! BTW, I see you have miss hiddeous in your avatar now. Was she getting jealous that the white cat was always getting the avatar picture?

Hey brisk,

Just out of curiosity, what Dimarzio p/us did you have in there and why didn't you like them? I currently have a Steve's Special and Paf Pro in mine and like them, especially the paf Pro in the neck. As for the bridge, I'm not 100 % satisfied...I also have a Jb laying around that I could put in...how did it compare with the other p/us you tried?
