My Jazz pickup

So i just got a new Les Paul that came with a Jazz in the neck and a Pearly Gates in the bridge. I love it all except the neck. It sounds like a acoustic-electric guitar. Even when its got drive it sounds like its an acoustic with distortion. I don't know if this is because it was wired wrong or not but a friend of mine has a Jazz in the neck of his Les Paul and I love the way that sounds. Help me out someone.

is your Jazz weak when played by itself or when played with the PG

open the control cavity and see if the black wire goes to the pickup selector on each pickup
check that the red and white wires are soldered together on each pickup

check that the green and bare wires are grounded to the back of the volume pot
for each pickup

do you have a push pull pot in the guitar?

Re: My Jazz pickup

Your probably in the middle position which is a rhythm clean to me.There is neck/bridge,bass/treble or rhythm/lead to call your selection of pickup. So your sound is based on what you pick.

Re: My Jazz pickup

A fast way to make sure both coils are working, or to see which coils are activated.....use an allen wrench to tap on all the poles, while moving through your switch's positions. If you hear the loud clunk when you tap on them, it's live.

Mess with the pickup height too.

Re: My Jazz pickup

The JazzN doen't have the color and character of a good PAF (like a '59, PG, A2P, or Seth). If it's wired right, it just may be your wood, and you need a PAF instead.

Re: My Jazz pickup

thanks well. I think its fine now. Its standard switching on the guitar. So it could be the wiring. But I think it might have been the amp i was using becuase now it sounds fine. Go figure.

Re: My Jazz pickup

your red/white connection may have shorted to ground
make sure these connections are taped

that would explain the intital problem
and the "going away"

Re: My Jazz pickup

If you still don't like it, take out the A5 mag and put an A2 mag in there. Then you'll have an A2P.

That's a matter of opinion. In a good thick mahogany guitar I found they have tons of character, but anything less than that... not so much
