My Les Paul is noisy! Video!

Re: My Les Paul is noisy! Video!

I had the same problem for the longest time in my Epiphone Les Paul, ever since redid all the wiring when I installed a Duncan PG set in. I tried everything I could think of, but today I finally had it... I ripped all the wiring out and started all over again from scratch, taking my time and making sure every thing was perfect. After I was done, I plugged in up and it was finally dead quiet. I still don't know what I did wrong the first time, but at least I didn't do it twice...

UPDATE!!!
So, I'm not sure what the issue was... a bad switch? Bad jack (is that possible?)?? Maybe just bad connections. Or, perhaps just too many wires. In any event - the guitar has been saved from ebay!
Thanks again for all your suggestions!
Congrats on the solution!
Having wired a full JP mod, I can tell you it's easy to screw up if you're not careful.
It could have been any of a number of things.
You can unwire and test the pots and switches individually and reuse as needed.
Yes, a bad jack is possible, as are overheated switches/pots or even just cold solder joints for the ground wires.

Re: My Les Paul is noisy! Video!

I'm definitely going to re-use the pots in the future. Once I de-solder them I'll test the lugs and also the switches.

I'm just happy to have the axe back!

Congrats. I really am glad that you got the problem solved.

But I'm also sad, because I wanted you to be totally upset with the LP so that you would give it to me.
