My Little Dean Hardtail Family

Re: My Little Dean Hardtail Family

Oh well I wanted it for my Gibson and Dean Shire

Don't really want to hack up either of those

Hmmm.. Ive been drooling over your blue one, but your comments about the neck shape rule it out for me. I like thin necks.

Gorgeous axes!!

I still think you would like it. I have small hands, so a little big to me is still small to most people. I'd give you a great deal on it, since I know money is tight. Think about it.

Re: My Little Dean Hardtail Family

I have had this one for the last 13 years. It is a Korean Hardtail Select, tiger eye finish. At the time when I was shopping I actually wanted a Les Paul (like a lot of people), however after being underwhelmed by Gibsons that I tried, on playing this for a few minutes in the shop it completely changed my mind about what I wanted, and I bought it. One of the better life decisions I made at 19 years old!

A few tweaks over the years. Pickup-wise I had an alnico 2 pro put in the neck which I adore, and after a few swaps I settled on the screaming demon in the bridge a while ago. The mini switch is there to split the bridge, and I preferred having a single master tone control.

Anyhow it is an absolutely gorgeous sounding guitar, but also it has the best neck I have ever known on anything, so having twice been fret dressed professionally it plays like butter.

Never played a US Dean version, so I wonder how this would compare - or whether this one would compare! Gotta say those US models are all gorgeous. Shame to let them go!

Re: My Little Dean Hardtail Family

Let me tell you, the Korean models are nothing to sneeze at. If the shape of the neck is right, like yours is, they're a dream for the money. I've only played 1 USA Hardtail that I didn't love. The neck makes those guitars and the USA models got it right most of the time. Combined with top grade wood selection most were and are really something. My only wish is that Dean would have finished the USA's in nitro instead of Poly. Other than that, they're perfect and they sound so good the poly doesn't matter.

I feel lucky to have played about a dozen nice ones over the years and had the opportunity to pick the 2 best out of 4. I could have kept buying and trying, but at some point enough is enough. I have 2 that I love and if the Quilt doesn't sell I won't be heartbroken. I love it too.

I hope you get to try a USA one day, but I don't think it will make you forget your Select. That is 13 years of memory there. A great USA Hardtail would jut be a nice companion for yours. I have two for sale if you might be tempted. I'm open to offers!!

Beautiful Select you have there.
