My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

B Bent

Vibroluxologist
Here's my latest score. Now you guys know that amps come and amps go, but not very many vintage Fenders swing through my doors. That's all about to change. I have come to the conclusion that I am addicted to the things. I just love older Fender amps. Also I personally really dig SF ones. I mean you get the right amp at the right time during the late 60's-70's and you have either a killer stock amp or an amp that can be made killer for a couple hundred dollars.

Anyways say hello to my 1973 Bandmaster Reverb HEAD!!! In all of it's tall (some say ugly) glory here she is!

35-40 Watts
Tube Rectified
Head with Verb and Trem!!!

Hmmm imagine why I bought this? Maybe the kissing cousin to my Vibrolux!!!

Lucky man... here silverfaces cost more than your average Marshall. I've seen a Silver Twin for the equivalent of 1,000 USD. It was close to 1,400 2 months ago but it went down.

Nice one dude! I'm still dying for one of those bandmaster or similar BF head at some point.

My name is Mario, aka 75lespaul.......and I'm addicted to old Fenders and old Marshalls. There, I said it. I'm out of the closet! That amp makes me shiver with.........antici.......pation. For a clip! :bigok:

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

HEHE!! I imagine it's gonna sound killer in stereo with the Lux.

BTW I see Kevlar in the thread... you need one of these Kev. It's right up your ally!!!

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

My mate used to have one of them. Great amp.

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

a friend of mine has the same amp. with a little tweaking the clean sound is amazing!

[All together]Hi, B-Bent![/All Together]

I started playing in the 70's. To me, proper Fender amps are silverface. Do what you want on the inside, but don't blackface it on the outside. Keep it silver and proud of it.

It's not too tall - it just needs the right cabinet. You definitely need the original vertical 2x12 Bandmaster cab. And no whining about it being too big! It's the look that counts, and that stack is one of the coolest-looking of all time.

I can't tell you how much time I spent back in 1974-75 gazing longingly at the Fendar catalog, wishing I had the bread for a Bandmaster Reverb stack (or better yet, the JBL-equipped Dual Showman Reverb stack).

Thanks for sharing!

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

Where do you find these things, Greg?
I found this one struggling on eBay. I emailed the guy with an offer and he accepted. This and the Showman are the only Fender heads from back in the day (to my knowledge) that have verb. To me a Fender without verb is about as useless as t!ts on a boar.

I approve, Grasshoppa! :)

Ahhh Mr. Curly!! I am truly happy that you approve. That means a lot! :beerchug:

Yeah Rich this guy never showed up as a Blackface amp cosmetically so no worries changing cosmetics.

As far as looks I really dig it too. Christian is the one who keeps saying how ugly he thinks they are. I can't wait to get it!!!

I must admit, I think the BF looks nicer than the SF. However, looks don't matter once you hear the tone.

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

I have one of these amps ('68 model). The best clean tone there is, IMO. I'd like to get a second one for stereo...they do tend to go pretty cheap on the bay. I guess alot of folks are biased; maybe not so much against the SF, but in favor of the Tweeds, BF, Brownface. Once you play one, though, you can't deny that they sound great (if you like Fender tone to start with, of course).

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

The thought of unloading my DRRI for something like a Sliverface Princeton has great appeal to me. As much as I like the DRRI I know there are more of them out there and I can pretty easily roll it over into something I'd love to take a crack at getting some play time on.

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

I'm addicted also.

I'm waiting for a '65 BandMaster head to arrive and I have a '67 Super Reverb and a '74 Princeton Reverb.

I only wish that my playing could do them justice.

Nice score bro'...I wish mine had reverb also. Like you, I like a bit of reverb.

Congrats.

Dave

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

Yeah, nice! The tall is great with the up-ended 2x12 (or 2x15) cab! I have a 64 blonde Showman Head n cab, and yeah, some verb would be good. I've kinda solved this issue, via a silly way. I go into the NORMAL channel Hi input, and then out of the NORMAL low jack, onward to a whole other reverbed amp (a laney VC15). I tell you it's very convincing! Just like reverb, without getting too wet on the general vibe. Anywooooo, nice amp!

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

What you *really* need is an old Super Reverb cabinet and put that head chassis in a Super Reverb cabinet, and you've got a Bandmaster Reverb and a 4x10 cab in a nice, neat little package!

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

Nice, I've been gassing for one for awhile to go with my 2-15 Showman cab!

Re: My Name is B Bent and I am addicted to old Fender amps!!!

That's a sweet one. Those sellers know not what they do. And to be honest, I think the tall ones look cooler......and it tells you it has reverb.

I think a lot of people plug into them and don't buy them because they're hearing it with old shot tubes from the 80's, or even the original tubes. Give that thing a tuneup, and you'll hear why people bought them in the first place.

You are going to love it!

TFL 5005 circuit!

Play it with 2-15" Weber Cali's.
