My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

Curly

Moe's Bluesman
yes, I pulled the handle today ...

I have one of these on custom order, but ran across one that I felt was a pretty good deal:

EB Albert Lee

just thought I'd share ... these may look a little goofy to some, but they're great quality, comfortable to play, and come with SD APSs - they may be a custom set, not sure

Peace

That neck looks cozy, & I kinda like the body shape. Funky, but not overly funky.

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

Cool! Those have such a "60's" art-deco vibe about them. Something about the shape. And, you got blue. :laugh2:

Its funny you picked an EBMM. I've been GAS'ing for a Silouette Special, HSS, hardtail for some time. Vintage white . . . pearloid pickguard.

Anyway . . . nice score Gary. ;)

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

The birdseye maple on that neck is AWESOME!!!

Are there really 5 screws for the neck attachment?

How do you like the angle of the selector switch and the placement of the volume & tone knobs? Do you like the input jack on the back?

(Can you tell that I'm cooking up a guitar design?)

If this is your worst problem, just enjoy it and rock on!

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

i always thought they looked a little jetsons, but they sound fantastic!

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

One of these days I'll get my very own EBMM, once I rob a bank

Curly,
Congrats on your new axe. Music Man guitars play and sound great and for the money you can't beat them. I saw Abert Lee playing one like yours on TV and besides the fact he is a MONSTER guitarist, the tone on the guitar was great; like a really nice Strat. Play it in good health.

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

thanks everyone!

I was trying to find a story I read about the history of this EB model ... it was originally a pink burst prototype known as the Axis, due to its design - "on axis". Albert was given an early one by Sterling Ball, and he loved it. So did Paul McCartney, and he got one as well.

It eventually became Albert's signature model, and Axis became the name for the EVH guitar after EVH split with EB.

I played one years ago, and thought they had a short scale, because the guitar was so easy to play. (it's a regular 25.5" scale)

I went to play one about a month ago, and that darn little "Jetson meets strat" body was surprisingly comfortable! The neck shape to me is pretty vintage in feel - the profile is a fairly rounded C shape with a vintage nut width. EB fans love the neck finish, which is gun oil/ wax. A very broken in feel, but they do require occasional maintenance - maybe once or twice a year.

These are all spec'ed with birdseye maple necks, and lightweight ash bodies. They have an active system used to can the hum - we'll see how that works.
They go for about $1200 new; this was an '04 for $700, so it was a pretty good deal.

Artie, yes, I've been checking out the Silhouettes too ... I kinda like the SSS Specials, but they come in a few configurations, including the SSH.

Chip, I was mostly focusing on the tone when I tested one, so didn't really note the controls - I'm sure I'll like that, since I'm used to strats, and don't have a problem with the controls like some players. The input jack is on the side, kinda like a tele, but a different type jack. And yes, 5 bolt necks. EBs have one of the most stable, solid, tight neck joints around.

thanks for taking a look at my new ax - I'll try to post a follow up after I've played it, maybe I'll make a few clips by this weekend.

take care,
G

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

is it an active system? i always thought it was just a dummy coil

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

Let me guess....My name is Curly and I like (strats, teles, blue guitars, G&L's) LOL

Sounds like it'll be a guitar with an ultramodern look, and a nice fast neck. I couldn't see the picture in the link.

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

jeremy, the newer ones have a battery powered noise reduction system, but I don't quite know how it works. I saw one guy claim the old models have more highs, but I wouldn't know.

Joneser, I updated the link to my site since the dealer removed his listing.

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

hahahaha you are my hero Curly! :D Nice nice nice. I'll bet it twangs for days.

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

Congratulations, Gary. I'm green with envy over here. I absolutely love the way that the neck on those things feel, and they sound great, too! Post some clips when you can, buddy!

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

It's good to see good guitars end up in the hands of good folk, that's all...lol

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

If you feel the need to get rid of any of those old strats/teles lying around, I'd be willing to pay for shipping!

:burnout:

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

Ah the Albert Lee one...those play great, tried a red one a long time ago, very twangy and was extremely comfy to play, a very quiet and useful guitar.
Will look forward to the pictures Curly:)

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

Great deal Curly , congrats !

The look is , say , special but those A.Lee model sound huge and play like wonders
The tone is somewhere between strat and tele and yes EBMM axes seem to have short scale due to their compact design.

Enjoy Curly, it's a nice axe and it's ....Blue !!!!!

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...

Cool man, I've never played one of those but I've always heard good things. Enjoy!

Re: My name is Curly, and I have a problem ...
