I think the G&L tint is a hand rubbed gunstock oil type of thing. Sounds eminently home-doable. They look amazing.
Grits,
you are correct, sir!
I'm sure they use the same stuff I did ... "Tru-Oil". I just didn't know before hand if the oil had any tint of its own - it doesn't. It's probably best to tint the neck before the oil finish, although to me, G & L's looks like they mix a tint with the oil. I'll have to get a test board and experiment for the next one. :)

I love their finish, though ... it's almost orange where it builds up

I highly recommend a Tru-Oil finish for necks, by the way. It's very easy to apply, finishes somewhere between a satin and a gloss, it's durable, and it feels great ... well, honestly, mine's a little sticky from rushing it - ideally, the last coat should cure for a couple days at least

finishing is a whole 'nother area all by itself :duh:

Are you crazy? If it's a truck, the only color for it is primer grey :D

You can take Beandip outta Texas. But, you could never take the Texas outta Beandip. :laugh2:

Joneser,
you ever been to Oxnard?

I think they actually have the highest primer rate per capita :D

thanks, Mike!

yes, you're right ...
the pics came out a little dark

to me, it looks closer to the champagne color you see on a lot of cars - Firemist Gold metallic is a vintage Fender metallic from 64-65 & 65-71 Cadillacs

playing this one is pretty addictive - the action is nice and low, but bends are still easy on the jumbo 6150 frets, and the Clapton neck is VERY comfortable

I'm pretty darn pleased with the way this one turned out, but I've got a couple other projects coming up, too ;)

my thanks to all of you for the nice comments!

Peace

When I first looked at it I thought it was pink, I was going to let you have it, how could any self respecting blues man play a pink strat!!! but then I realized my monitor was looking funny, I recalibrated and now it looks great!

Just kidding for those of you who may own a pink strat........... NOT!
