My New #1 (Tele content)

Greetings all,

Less than a year ago, I sold my American Series Tele (major, major dumb thing to do, btw). I took the money and bought a new Fender Deluxe Nashville Tele. It was a very nice guitar. The neck, however, was a bit on the light side; from a girth perspective (modern C shape). I traded it to a good forum member; for his Fender FSR HSS Strat. It was a very very nice Strat. It wasn't long though, before I remember why I don't play Strats. I can't get along with the body contours. I guess I've been playing Teles too long. I just traded the Strat to another forum member; for his Deluxe Nashville Tele. I did my own mods and am very happy with the results. Here's a pic.

I got the parchment guard from Guitar Fetish. The only drawback is that they don't put the shielding tape on the underside and there's a bit of static. That goes away in time though. Even though I like the S/S/S config with 3-way switch and mini-toggle (when in the down position, it adds the middle pickup to whatever is selected on the 3-way switch), I love the look of a standard Telecaster. My trade came with a double-wafer superswitch. With that, I could begin the arduous task of the Jerry Donahue modification. Hmmmmm, who knows.....

Right now, I'm content with it the way it is.

I wondered why you had a strat in your avatar for awhile if IIRC, and was posting about strats. Now the world is back to normal.

Sweet looker!

...and you're not the only one that can't get along with the Strat contours. I've always found Teles more comfortable.

I really tried. It as a great guitar; one of the best Strats I have every had.

Way to go Butch. I knew it was only a matter of time and you'd get back to a Tele. You and Tele were made for each other. Nice looking guitar.

Re: My New #1 (Tele content)

Thanks all. I appreciate all the kind words. I was really trying to talk myself into going with a classic 2-pickup Tele and doing the Jerry Donahue mod. I have a good drawing and a superswitch. I'm still thinking about it; mainly if all the selections would be truly viable for me. With my current switching, I have 7 options and I use them all; even if three are quack sounds and their differences are fairly subtle. I could ask my wife to listen to them. If she can tell a difference, then there is definitely a tone difference. If only I can, then it might be worth the change. :D

Reunited and it feels so good....... So, just had to. Butch, as long as Ive known you, you have always been a Tele guy.. You've cheated a few times and always ended up back with a tele lady.. Congrats on finding your way back home!!

Re: My New #1 (Tele content)

Keep it as is. IFLHO, if you have two pickups on it you might as well have three.

Thank you.

Re: My New #1 (Tele content)

That looks amazing!

How usable is the middle pup?

I only use the middle pickup combined with the other two. That's what the mini-switch is for. I never was a fan of the Strat middle pickup by itself. I'd much rather use the neck and bridge pickups together,
