I've always wanted a Martin... so now I'm here, just ordered one!
Some don't like the DX1's for the HPL back and sides and the Stratabond neck. I don't see a problem with it and decided to give it a try! Bulletproof materials they say... and at the same time it has the solid spruce which doesn''t have much of a finish on it, so I don't need to "thin-skin" this one
In the cold winters to warm summers climate with humidity changes here in Finland this guitar seems like a killer alternative as these "new" materials aren't as prone to climate changes!
Over at the UMGF (Martin Guitar forum) even guys who own real beauties like HD28V's and such super guitars seem to praise the quality to price ratio of this Martin and also mention that it has that Martin sound. And I have to say that I trust their opinion when it comes to Martins!
I just can't leave anything alone though.. so some small mods will be done, a little "pre-war styling":
- Open back Grover Sta-Tite tuners
- Greven 30's style pickguard
- Polishing the satin finish to gloss
- Bone bridge pins
- Bone saddle
- And in the future maybe a K&K Mini Western pickup system...
I'll be sure to post pics when I get it, don't worry
