My new amp - Bogner Shiva 20th Anniversary edition -oh, and I met texasguitarslinger!

I've been eying the Shiva for a while now, and after listening to various clips online I've been determined to try out one out. Problem is, the closest Bogner dealer (that isn't the Alchemist model) is in Austin! So, what does a guy do? Make a road a trip to Austin, of course! :)

After trying the Shiva I was sufficiently pleased, enough to the point of purchase, but the salesman insisted that he liked the 20th anniversary edition better, and said I really should try that one out before I decide to make the purchase. So I plugged in...and I agreed! The gain section has much more balls than the regular shiva, making it perfect for the sound I want to create. The clean section sounded exactly the same, so I really see this model as being an upgrade over the regular Shiva, for not much extra cost.

While I was there I met up with texasguitarslinger, and we hung out for an hour or two and had a few beers. Good dude.

Pics!

Nice!

I love my [regular EL34] Shiva. But have been wanting to step-up to some more balls myself. I plan to sell the Shiva at some point and get an XTC 101B. I tried this past week, but it didn't hit my reserve price ($1500). Market seems a bit soft right now. Gonna try again though. Until it happens, I'll still be digging my Shiva!

Great story. The Shiva was always Bogners amp that would fit me best and I'd love to try out the 20th. I prefer the bigger tubes (6550/KT88s) in my guitar amps so these are right up my alley.

Red Label: The market right now is terrible for sellers so that's not at all surprising.

Holy ****! I haven't thought about that album in years. I'm gonna have to dig it out and give it a wee listen. That opening track was freakin' killer.

rofl I know Jake's a fan as well. We must be three of 6 people who still know who they are. Every song on that album is the same song if you know what I mean. But its a good song. Figure 8 is my favorite track on that album.

Admittedly, TrustCompany's style was the inspiration for the track "chaser" here: http://driftrocks.bandcamp.com you may not hear it, but that's what I was going for when writing the music. Then my Metallica-metalhead drummer got a hold of it. But listen to the main riff and think about "Running From Me" by TrustCompany.

I have a 1 12" combo. Great Great amp, but if I had to do it again(maybe in the future) I would have bought a head and cab. Its a lot easier to move. Even though I have a amp case for it on wheels it is still heavy as hell. The tone is really really good though. I really like it quite a bit. The cleans are as good if not better then most Fenders I have played through and the reverb is better!

The drive is very very good, but occasionally I use a TS9 to push it just a bit more.

Good luck with your purchase YOU WILL ENJOY IT

As I was playing it, I figured I would need to get a TS9 or something for whenever I need that extra push. This covers hard rock very well but not really heavy metal. I'll definitely need to get a pedal or two if I ever play with a metal act again.

My model doesn't have the reverb - If I decide I really need it, I've heard Bogner is pretty good about you sending your head to them to get that added for not too much $$. The cleans sound amazing as is though! Glad to hear you like it, I kinda get the feeling I'll like it for a long time too. :p

Dude, I still have lots of love for that album. "Figure 8" is probably my favorite song off of it too, haha. If you ever get the chance to see them live, do it...seriously the most friendly musicians I've ever met. After the show I sat with the vocalist and the guitarist for literally about an hour and just shot the sh!t with them. Then the vocalist hugged me as I left, and the drummer signed a busted drumstick and gave it to me, haha.

Awesome Jake... welcome to the Bogner family! I've been wanting to try the new 20th anniversary Shiva, but there aren't any dealers nearby. Clips please :D I need to live vicariously through you :p

Killer amp. Make it a lifetime keeper, no matter what else you buy.

Live, you probably won't even need reverb. I use a EH Holy Grail on top of my XTC, and have it mixed in very subtle. You can find those pedals cheap, and they sound fine.

One thing you should know is that Bogner cabs are worth the money, just so your amp sounds as good as it should.
