Re: My new favorite picks
I got a couple of the Ultex Sharps in 1.14 mm I think. Little brighter than their standard 351 shape. Like 'em. I'll still use the same gauge Tortex or Gators.
But lately I've been digging the "Red Rocker" V-Pick. This is a great entry into the world of V-Picks. Feels like a standard 351, but very stiff and controllable. Very grippy. I also like many of their thicker picks. Some have a very bright tone; the "Screamer/Acoustic" is great for adding attack and presence to a rosewood dread. Haven't worn one down yet. Fast over the strings.
The OTHER cool pick in my pocket is an agate pick from Mike Stone at Stoneworks Guitar Picks. They sell their "plain janes" for about $12, but the fancier agates, meteorite, turqoise, et. al. can be over $100. They are highly polished and very fast across the strings. Stiff as a rock (pun), and they wear like iron. (Pun #2.) Expensive yes, but exquisitely beautiful, just little works of art. AND...they sound good! He can do them as a necklace for your main squeeze; I've bought a couple for Miss Leslie. Thicknesses can vary but if you like a stiff pick, give them a try.
