My next project

Since it seems that my 5-way switch is going bad, and trying to wire it like a PRS 5-way rotary switch is going to be a pita, and given that I have already swapped the stock magnets and otherwise altered the pups, I have hereby decided to swap the 5-way for a 3-way and henceforth mount the pickups in Triple Shot rings, so help me, me. As soon as I can afford to. I want the versatility of being able to run the pickups not only split, but series/parallel. Not exactly the same options as the PRS, but still...

Re: My next project

I just put a double thick ceramic in the JB that's in the bridge. After a few weeks of it settling in, I think it sounds phenomenal. It's just that I can here way more volume drop off when I switch it to positions 2 and 4. I think that the contact points are either not tight enough or corroded. My Ibanez has a three way with Triple Shots and I just figure that this axe couldn't but help benefit from the same treatment.

Re: My next project

I haven't tried the triple shots yet. At some point I will because they seem awesome! I always get a drop off in volume in positions 2 and 4 whether it's a HSH, SSS, or HHH guitar but it's usually a pretty normal and expected drop off.

Re: My next project

They can be a tad delicate. Basically put them on one set of pickups, then swap the whole thing, rings and all as a set. Otherwise you run the risk of breaking the microswitch wires. Trust me, I know. They let you choose a parallel wiring for the pickup, which is almost a single coil, but without the drastic volume loss.

Re: My next project

Well, I've never knowingly worked on a neck through. But when I removed the pickups to swap the mags, I saw a solid piece of wood running from the neck joint all the way through the bridge section. No seams or glue marks.

That's good to know

Re: My next project

On my RG2
I put triple shot rings and a 5 way super switch

To eliminate the volume drop
I put the 2 & 4 positions in series
With 4 out of phase

If I switch to position 4
and split the JB
It does an impression of a Tele

But the series is much thicker sounding
