My Pedal Collection

Here's a shot of the best of my pedal collection. The board at the top is the simple pedal rig I use for my main gig, which can be augmented by any of the special treats below for other gigs or sessions.

Re: My Pedal Collection

I'm sure you don't need all of those pedals, so if you need somebody to look after a couple for you, I'm your man!! ;)
What are you running that into?

Re: My Pedal Collection

Very colourful.

What does the three button footswitch on the bottom left-hand corner of the pedal board do? Would I be correct in guessing it's a bypass switch + two different loops: one for overdrive and the other for time based/modulation pedals?

No, you're right, I can't use all of them all the time. I'll box a few of them up and send them to you immediately...or soon maybe...

Most of the time they go into a Fender Super Champ which is pimped out with 1950's RCA tubes throughout...it's a good thing.

I choose them mainly by colour.

The triple true bypass loop is a versatile device. In that particular configuration, it's one loop for the Dimension C, one for the DE-7, and one for a tuner out/mute switch. In that set up it is there to avoid tone suck. I have another looper from the same guy (Loop-Master) which switches between two of the MXR Phasers set to different speeds. I call it the "Poor Man's Leslie" because the end result is that it acts like a more instant version of the rotor switch.

Re: My Pedal Collection

Very nice. I like them. 2 Demension C's? Do you only buy Boss pedals that range from rare to extremely rare? :D: D I'm always semi-interested in the Octron, how do you like it, and what do you use it for?

Re: My Pedal Collection

i love using my Dimension C, TS10 Tube Screamer, and my Ibanez Tone Lok Delay pedals too.... all three where on my last board

Re: My Pedal Collection

Dimension C : great chorus

seems like every one that uses one of these uses the preset 2nd from the left... i love that setting... when i saw one of these on Jeff Becks little pedalboard on the guitar shop tour i had to have one

Re: My Pedal Collection

hey, I recognize that round enclosure on the right... from diystompboxes.com I think. You get that from McFarlow or whatever his name is?

Nice pedals!

Thats an Expandora, one of the most lauded distortion/overdrives on the market. Billy Gibbons is a big fan. Never tried one first hand, but i'd love to.

Re: My Pedal Collection

I love the Dimension C. Always regretted selling mine some 16 years ago.

You know, I'm not really a fan of straight chorus, in fact I have a CE-1 that I forgot to put in the shot, but The Dimension C is something else. The singer I do most of my work with had a lot of hits here in the 80's, so I needed something "chorusy," and I haven't found anything better in my travels than the Dimension C.

I don't know if it's coincidence that I happen to like the Boss pedals that ended up being discontinued early, but these are the only ones I've really been interested in. The DM-2 is just a beautiful thing, as is the T-Wah and the Tremolo-Pan. The Slow Gear is an interesting piece, I love what Robbie Robertson did with it, but I actually prefer getting that effect with the volume pedal for more control.

The Octron2 is a magnificent beast. It has the advantage over the original Octron of being able to switch in each octave (up, down and direct) individually, and the bypass switch so you can set up a "patch" and kick the whole effect in with one switch. It also has it's own loop, so you can have a fuzz or envelope filter or whatever, after the octaves, which kicks in with the rest. Tracking wise it's better than anything else I've played, and you have internal pots to get broad control over the sonic nature of the upper and lower octaves. It's all analog, and it kicks serious butt. Here's a track I recorded with it, going straight into the drive channel of my Super Champ.

I'll check out the clip when I get home...

Have you compared it to the POG? I know it's digital, but I love it. (Actually I see a lack of EHX items ;))

No, I haven't done the comparison. I have a deep respect for many of the EHX pedals, but I've never gone down that track. I don't know if I've had the wrong impression, but I've always had a preconceived notion of unreliability issues with EHX stuff, they always seemed fragile to me, even though I know many of them sound fantastic. I think I may have been put off by the Q-Tron I tried a few years ago, which just sounded like junk compared to my old Mutron III, but it probably wasn't a fair comparison. I know a buddy of mine swears by his Deluxe Memory Man and it sounds great in his rig, albeit rather real estate hungry!
