My R8 came!

I'm in love. It's beautiful. The burst is less red than the pics. It was very well setup right out of the case. Super low and buttery smooth action. Nut is cut well too. The fat 50's neck fits my big mitts perfectly. Most comfortable guitar I've played yet. The tone is incredible. The crunch I get with this through my Silvertone makes it damn near impossible to put down. Here are a few pics:

You sound exactly like I felt when my R7 showed up. The Custom Shop instruments right now are top notch. Nice guitar. Enjoy!

Re: My R8 came!

Sweetness! That's a lifetime keeper. Don't ever make the mistake of selling it.

It's funny how the red really comes out in digital pictures. Same with my honeyburst LP. When you see it in person, there's no red in it.

Re: My R8 came!

Nice, I really like how there are subtle little bursts of figure in the wood by the knobs and the pickups. I personally really like a top that is mostly plain with a few things here and there.

Aw man, I looooove plaintops...

That looks like a sweet purchase... play the heck out of it!

Don't worry. It took me too long to save up for this, and she's too perfect to ever sell.

Yeah the red is really weird. It's a normal Iced Tea burst with that orangey brown color. I'm going to see if it still comes out red in some outdoor natural light pics.

When I first saw the pictures from the shop I didn't know what to make of the markings. Being such a big purchase and my first Les Paul I was a big nervous and checked it out with the LPF guys. That subtle figuring is so beautiful in person though. It has got small areas of 3D figuring that move under the light. I'm so glad I went for it.

NICE!

I LOVE my R8...mine's an Iced Tea burst and was the best playing/sounding Historic out of over a dozen at the store I went to...I know Gibson is always under fire for QC issues but I still maintain that if you get a good one you have a keeper for life and a guitar that nothing else can touch!

Is yours a Historic or a VOS?

Re: My R8 came!

beautiful plain top, and a nice color burst

I agree that Saul's Pauls play well ... Saul has some Historics set up by Fred Marotta, who has his own shop, and who I go to for all my work.

LP + Silvertone = nasty tone :)

play in good health

Both! Lol. It's a Gibson Custom Historic VOS R8. :smokin:

But yeah. It's a VOS, not a gloss top.

Just took delivery on the same guitar in cherry. GREAT sound.....a fair bit heavier than my R9...about the same or slightly less than my R7. I bought this one to mess around with so i could leave the R9 pretty much stock:laugh2: I am seriously contemplating having RS refinish the top in the solid red like Dickey Betts has.....sacrilege, i know, but hey......it's mine, not yours:fing25: and I think the burst doesn't look as good on the plain tops:27: Plus, people want WAY too much for the factory red R8's on Ebay.
