My son tried to swipe my Keeley Tubescreamer!

Little peckerhead.

But I got it back. I popped it in front of the Bad Cat for the first time.

I actually prefer the TS-9 into the defeated master scenario over the preamp/master distortion of the Bad Cat. Just sounds better if you can imagine that.

Keep in mind this is for that late night distortion thing without de-coupling the guys that live behind my house. (they are on my sh*t-list right now for cutting down a 75 year old oak tree, but that's another rant)

For full balls-to-the-wall distortion, the Bad Cat in non-master mode is still pretty unbelievable to me. But that little TS-9 that Stratman gave me and then Keeley modded, takes the cake.

Hey, where is Stratman anyway? Larry, are you out there? If so, thanks again. Great pedal.

Re: My son tried to swipe my Keeley Tubescreamer!

he was probably just "storing" it for you, and "keeping it warmed up" while you weren't using it. :D

I have several nice OD's now, but I love my original TS-9! Just has great harmonics, and the mid bump doesn't bother me at all - in fact, it seems just right for overdrive!

CUrly, you ever used one of the Dumble-like tone pedals? The Menatone Howie or the HAO Rumble?

Re: My son tried to swipe my Keeley Tubescreamer!

The TS-9 replaced the Tubescreamer (TS808), if memory serves, correct? I've never played one, but I've heard many good things about it. I find it hard to believe it can top my Full-Drive 2, tho ...

Re: My son tried to swipe my Keeley Tubescreamer!

gotta get a tubescreamer

gotta get a tubescreamer

LOL!!!

The TS-9 did replace the TS808. But a reissue TS808 has been manufactured once again by Ibanez, and the reviews have been pretty good.

Re: My son tried to swipe my Keeley Tubescreamer!

My favorite tubescreamer is the Maxon OD-9. Same basic tone as the TS-808 but with more available gain and a wider sweep on the tone control.

Re: My son tried to swipe my Keeley Tubescreamer!

I'm guessing that a keeley or analogman modded tubescreamer would keep up with that FD2, but having no real experience with those big time high dollar pedals, I'll keep quiet. Seems like it can't get a *lot* better, but maybe it can! :)

I'm still thinking about one of those dumble-tone type pedals. A little Larry Carlton or Robben Ford tone would be a sweet addition if it can be done for $250 and not $8,000!

The reissue TS808 is great....Change 2 resistors and the opamp in the TS9 and you have an 808...Bingo..Change the right components in the TS9 or the 808 and you really have a great sounding TS!

Scott,
haven't tried those ...
my friend, "Fretty Bender" (the one who got the Komet), uses a Tonebone, and he kinda goes for the Robben Ford/ Larry Carlton tone ...

I have a couple custom colored Fulldrives, one yellow, one red, but I just forget to use 'em  As far as I know, they might use the same chip as the TSs - they're definitely in that ball park, although Mike's the first one I can think of who did the 2 stage OD - very practical!

My favorite OD right now is the Maxon OD Pro 820 - my review and clips are here:
Maxon 820 review
it doesn't have a huge bottom end, but the thing I like most is not only the great tone, but that it just feels like a part of your playing, not a tacked on tone. I thought about getting one for quite a while, then saw the Legendary Tones review that someone posted here when we were talking about the Klon, and I got off the fence and got one. I've seen these go for about $150 on ebay - that's with the adapter, so I think it's not a bad deal. I'd like to do a head to head comparison one day with Gearjoneser and his Klon.

I'm fond of my TS9 though, 'cause I got it used in a package deal, sold the other pedals, and ended up with the TS9 for very little. I had it for a few years before I was looking at a list of serial #'s on TS808.com , and realized it was original, and not a reissue! cool!

I really think, for a strat at least, a TS is the one essential pedal. :)

Re: My son tried to swipe my Keeley Tubescreamer!

Which of you guys has the new Ibanez 808 Reissue? I want another Tube Screamer type pedal. Like a fool, I sold a rare Blues Pearl Blue Screamer that was awesome. I'm thinking of getting that new 808 Reissue. I like my Klon, but it's a different sound.
The Klon just sounds like a juicier, springier version of your amp, turned up. For strats, it sounds too dense. Good TS's are the way to go for strats.

I have the 808 reissue and 59 paul does also..Naturally I did some tweaks to my 808 for more lows and more gain...Just a few tweaks is all though.. I also put an early JRC4558D chip into mine from the early 80s...

You want Robben Ford tone for under $250?

-get a G2D cream-tone, and ask for the original, less bright circuit. Run it with a humbucker guitar through a fat sounding amp, like a brownface or tweed fender, and crank the mids. You'll be right in the ballpark.

Rotten kids, what's the youth of america coming too!!! Send that pedal to me immediately and I'll keep it safe for ya!

Scott, I've tried the menatone - I didn't think it did the dumble sound, the bottom end fell out rather quickly. I think you'll have a better chance at getting that tone with an amp that's got a balanced sound and a tight bottom end (fender twin) and a BD2 or 808 type pedal.

Or Scott can just buy the Dumble? :)
