My Strat With The Surfers Part 3 (LEW)

STRATDELUXER97

Stratoblaster Tone Meister
Tonight I went back into my strat and took the No Load tone pot out and put a Fender CTS 250k in it's place...My guitar has the blender pot circuit in place also...I then substituted a .027 cap for the .022...I probably should have used a .033 but anyway...The middle and neck pickups sound really great..The bridge position is pretty toppy but not in an ice picky way...I find that I only need to roll the tone control back to around 7 to 8 to tame it down right...Like Lew said also,if I dial the blender pot to around 7 I get a fuller tone and it seems to remove highs or add the extra fatness...The longer I Played my guitar tonight with the Surfers, the more I found myself actually wanting the extrat highend I Kept dialing off because these pickups are so very clear and articulate..I Know the only difference I hear between this bridge pickup and the Texas Hot bridge is the added presence and clarity I hear from the A5 poles...These pickups have such an amazing clean clarity with nice presence...I still have only tryed these pickups played very clean through my BF Pro Reverb amp..

Next time I change strings I'll put a .033 cap on the tone control, but I don't think it's really necessary and I think getting the no load tone pot out was a real plus...I've never owned a real 64 strat and I'm sure that's what these pickups mimmick,so excuse me for not liking these right off the bat like I did the Texas Hots..This guitar could be overall a bit brighter than my heavy American Deluxe alder body? Anyway...Don't let my posts keep you from getting some really great sounding pickups into your guitar...They react different but I'm not saying they aren't great also...

Groove-a-delic! Glad you're appreciating them more.

Interesting comment about turning the tone control down to "8"...wonder why turning the No Load tone pot down to "8" didn't accomplish the same thing?

I'm removing the No Load tone pot on my Strat too. Guess I just don't feel like turning the tone pot down to "8". :)

I don't really care for ANY strat bridge pickup without some of the tone rolled off ... just plain too darn bright for me

Curly..I agree with you...I always dial a bit of that presence away in the bridge position..I'm buying a twangbanger off MRID to try out also...We'll see what happens? :smack:

I think it's one of the best Strat bridge replacement pickups I've used. Fat and sassy. Lots of quack. I'll be interested to know how you think it compares to the Ant I Tex Hot Custom bridge pickup. I don't have one of those in a Strat to compare the Twangbanger to. Lew

Re: My Strat With The Surfers Part 3 (LEW)

Would a twangbucker be too powerful to match stock Fender singles in the neck and middle positions? I just need a little extra kick back there...

Re: My Strat With The Surfers Part 3 (LEW)

i think the twangbanger is meant to be matched with any kind of vintage styled singles farkus....so it should be sweet with those

The Twangbanger will work beautifully with stock Strat pickups. Lew

MRID is sending that pickup out to me today and I'll send him a check...Great price on the pickup, from a great guy! Thanks MRID...

I'm not parting with the Surfer bridge, but I am experimenting a bit...Seems the twangbanger might be a cool pickup to try...

Ah I want to hear that Twangerbanger thingy banger...er
Sounds cool Stratdeluxe, sigh I miss having a stock Strat sometimes....no humbuckers, just one with a trad trem and three good singles.

Re: My Strat With The Surfers Part 3 (LEW)

i am loving that twangbanger, have been since i got a pre-production one. the more i use singles in the bridge live the more i like having the extra high end available, its killing me to have a set of surfers just sitting there but i havent had time to finish the guitar that they are going in.

i played a '62 strat the other day and i guess i forgot how bright they can be. i was suprised how bright even the neck pup was but it was such a cool tone i cant wait to get those surfers in

Thanks for posting to me Jeremy...Hey Jeremy,I'm totally clueless about this pickup? MRID sold it for such a great price(Thanks again MRID) that I had to grab it to try out..

Could you tell me what it does compared say to the SSL1 or Surfer bridge pickup...Is it beefier in it's lows, less toppy,etc..Sure appreciate whatever you could give me about it..

Re: My Strat With The Surfers Part 3 (LEW)

havent tried that surfer bridge yet, still sitting in the box. i heard one before but it was a long time ago.
compared to an ssl1 its got a fatter tone with more mids and output, try it youll like it. from what youve said about the surfer, i think youll really dig the twangbanger

I really like the Surfer set alot...The middle and neck postions are phenomenal..The bridge pickup has really grown on me also after some extra needed tweaks...Don't know if the Twangbanger would totally replace the Surfer bridge in my case, but I'd like to see what it does and have an extra single coil Duncan pickup around...I currently have an extra pickguard loaded with APS middle and neck and a Hybrid humbucker..It's not a bad deal to have that extra bridge pickup laying around in the event another cool body comes along again... Thanks Jeremy...

Sorry for digging up this one....but I am getting kinda hot on a Twangerbanger together with my SSL-1's.....I made my strat back to normal again...I suddenly missed having a standart strat...and that Twangerbanger is intriguing:D
