My take on Van Halen's Eruption!

Re: My take on Van Halen's Eruption!

Honest opinion? You're really sticking your neck out by doing a take on "Eruption." That said, I feel as though there were parts of your take I enjoyed, but the entire piece didn't feel cohesive. I was impressed with your speed here and there, but at no point was I moved by your recording. Nonetheless, I will say your take displays technical ability that surpasses my own.

You asked. :)

Thats exactly what i want dude, thanks... i think part of the charm of that song are the whammy bar sections, maybe this version is lacking that, cause my guitar is an sg standard...but i knew this piece is really hard, just want to give it a try, thanks for being honest man!!

Re: My take on Van Halen's Eruption!

My pleasure. A lot of the magic of this song is in Eddie's tone, so when you don't have that to start with -- and how many of us do, honestly? -- you're already a dollar short.

Re: My take on Van Halen's Eruption!

i thought the tone was kind of cool. the playing was real raw and slashish (i never really cared for slash, but that's just me). i think evh was a lot smoother. maybe if you smooth out your bends and do the whole swing thing you might get convey a better feel. i would disagree that you need a brown sound. i like that you're changing it up a bit. hell, i must have heard eddie play 20 versions of it over the years. were you using a duncan custom?

Ok, this is from the guy who has not posted his chops yet, so take it for what its worth. Hats off to anybody who takes a step to do pieces that are history, I am learning Black Star now and sooner or later you will hear it boys no matter how sucky it is. Now, from 1:00 to 1:15 the tapping, you've nailed Nuno vibe, sorry EVH fans but I always thought that Nuno did EVH thing better than EVH and I loved it was total "Mutha" vibe going. Before and after it is fast, but kind of lifeless ... you got the speed maybe you just need now to work on the "atmosphere."

I knew that distortion sounded familiar! I use that amp as well, I don't even own it, but I can get it so sound good if I really try.

Re: My take on Van Halen's Eruption!

i have an mg15 and think it sounds pretty good for a cheap amp. one thing i learned from these forums is that you have to crank marshalls. and this little thing sounds pretty cool when cranked.

Re: My take on Van Halen's Eruption!

Oh well it wasnt too loud cause of the neighbors!!
But ill try your recommendation, thanks for listening!

Re: My take on Van Halen's Eruption!

Hey man, I thought that was cool. I can't play that fast so you topped me right off the back, it wasn't right on but it was just what you presented it as...Your take on Eruption....good job :)
