My telecaster has no balls

STL-2 Hot

Great pickup. 15.6K full output and 7.6K tapped output. The STL-2 is sort of the alnico 5 version of the alnico 2 Custom Shop version I recommended earlier in this thread.

Re: My telecaster has no balls

I've found alot of folks who aren't satisfied with their Tele sound really aren't trying to go for a Tele sound but are attmepting to make it sound like something else entirely.

I was guilty of this for years. I swapped out pickup after pickup and did mod after mod.

I put it away for almost ten years and when I came back to it my ear had developed enough to actually appreciate the tone of a Telecaster.

Take a listen to someone like Albert Collins or Steve Cropper. If they don't sound like something you're looking for, even in an embryonic form, then put it back to original and sell it off. For better or for worse a Tele is always going to sound like a Tele, especially with an Ash body and maple neck. It's a blessing and a curse that way.

Both the JD and the STL-2 will probably be a bit higher output than the A2 pro rhythm. Personally, I'd use the opportunity to replace that, too, as I wasn't very fond of the one I tried. If you really like it though, I'd probably go with the JD as the closer match.

Thanks for all the replies. I ultimately decided I wanted the Telecaster to sound like a non-Telecaster and exercised the 30-day return policy.

*sniff*

God love you for not carving up a perfectly good guitar to make it something it isn't.

If only we had more folks with that sort of sensibility in this world....
