Guitar Toad
Toadily Stratologist
I finally bought a RW/RP middle Texas Hot and the Texas Hot Custom Bridge to make a full set of TH’s in my strat.
Let me just say that I’m not worthy. These are terrific pickups. I am experiencing what I have heard other guys describe: evenly voiced true single coil pickups. They are warm with just the right brightness. I get bluesy neck tones, sweet notch tones, and beefy strat tones from the bridge. The bridge is beefy but still sounds like a strat. Notes from the upper frets come off round and big and melodic.
As I was ordering the Custom Bridge I was worried that it was going to be too hot. I wanted to have the best of both worlds hot tones and still hold on to the vintage vibe. The good news is that it’s not too hot. I am no expert, but is this the perfect strat pickup? It still sounds straty and strong and solid, not thin weak or ice-picky.
Earlier in the week I had posted in Bluedave’s Texas Hot Thread, that I was concerned that these pickups weren’t bright enough for me. I removed the one NOS RFT 12AX7 tube and replaced that one with an EH equivalent. Now, it sounds great. I get bright and chimey tones without it being too glassy or too bright.
AAAh! So, this is what a professional quality guitar sounds like. I love it. I now have a strat that even a tele lover/player like Flank would enjoy playing. :laugh2:
Lew, and Christian (The Guy Who Invented Fire) thanks for your great recommendations. You were right on!
