My thoughts on the Black Winter set

Re: My thoughts on the Black Winter set

Thing about me and neck pickups is don't judge them on their own merits. I always find myself liking or dislking them depending on how they pair with the bridge pickup. I'm sure the '59 would be a better match for the Custom, Custom 5, or other bassy/scoopy-sounding bridge pickups. Maybe even the Dimebucker.

Honestly, sometimes I feel I'm too picky about neck pickups. I'm a bridge pickup kinda guy 99.999% of the time anyway.

I just sold the 59'....the Gun Oil finish on the Les Paul build is coming along beautifully...ive got all the hardware and electronics rtg...now im just waiting for the 4th of July sales and im going to pick up a full set of Black Winters....ive got a real good feeling about this guitar...Meanwhile, the Nazgul/57' Classic combo in my SG Standard cannot be better...going into my Block Letter 5150, 2× 4x12 cabs , an original peavey w/ sheffield 1290's and a Marshall 1960a w 2x T75's and 2x Creamback M65's, boosted by a VFE Focus creates a beautifully brutal and harmonically saturated distortion that is inspiring the whole band to really dig in...you know that feeling when youve found your sound within the band setting and you can hear everybody else because the frequencies are not stepping on each other? I think i can get that from the Lester/BW combo...if not Ive got the Custom rtg or i can order another Nazgul

And with the COOLEST Seymour Duncan logo ever! I'd love a set of these to try for myself through my own rig. Good review man. It is sort of a curve ball when you actually try them because you have this grimy almost oversaturated tone in your head when you read their description and behold their aesthetic but after playing them most people find almost the exact opposite. This is good.

Oh, they're still pretty aggro! They're just aggressive in a modern, refined kinda way.
