My Trip To Ultrasound

Only got to spend about two hours there, but the guitars I got to use were as follows:

56 Strat
59 Les Paul

(the real deals!)

The amps I plugged into:

Bruno Cowtipper 45
Bruno Underground 30
Bruno Super 100
matchless DC30
Komet Constellation
Bad Cat Black Cat
Carr Imperial
Carr Hammerhead
Fender Twin
Bruno Deluxe (well, Tony's take on a 5E3)
one of two of the Two Rocks

All I can say is that I now understand the magic that is Bruno and I also thought that the Komet would have given Gearjoneser's Bogner a run for it's money.

Great amps all the way around, fantastic guitars to "borrow". I felt vastly inferior in that room.

Gene and Ken at Ultrasound are first class guys and a pleasure to deal with.

Let the GAS be further flamed. Wow.

Re: My Trip To Ultrasound

Re: My Trip To Ultrasound

Scott, you're killing me, I need reviews! :D

How was the Komet Constellation and Bruno Super and Cowtipper?

Re: My Trip To Ultrasound

Ultrasound Studios is a for-rent collection of studios as their primary gig. They also sell a fine selection of amplifiers.

The funny thing about the Bruno Cowtipper (blackface tone) is that compared to every other Blackface style amp I plugged into, they all seemed to have a wet blanket thrown over their lower end. The Cow had such a great high end and the bottom end lacked the blanket I found on others. That is one great amp.

I felt the Underground 30 was a really top amp as well. I wish I'd had my Trem Cat to compare it to directly. The UG30 sounded better than the Dc30 and the Black cat, but again, the trem cat is a different beast to a certain extent.

Very cool place. Appointment only. You have to "rent" the studio if you want to hang out there. The 20 bucks is applied back towards your amp purchase if you wish to buy from them. I can tell you that it was worth every penny.

The Komet was a rock and roll animal as was the Super 100. Both are Dumble inspired amps. I'd have been hard pressed to choose if that had been my style. Just hard rock machines. Reminded ma a lot of GJ's Bogner.

Re: My Trip To Ultrasound

The Carr's were uninspriging and the Hamerhead was downright ugly to my ears. THe Imperial wasn't bad, but it had the blackface wet blanket on it.

Re: My Trip To Ultrasound

Sounds like the admission to a movie, only you get to spend a few hours playing all the nice amps. Scott, I'd hate to have your checkbook and be in that place. I'd walk out with something. Most likely a Bruno Super 100 or Cowtipper. Those Komets are nice, but the Ecstasy takes off, where that amp leaves off. Ha Ha

AHAHAHAHAHAHAH A GOOD SAYING ONE.
now that my friends is a great quote....

so let it be written...."let the gas be further flamed"

sounds like a great trip to NYC Scott...and you're right $20 bucks would have been well worth all of that!!!

Re: My Trip To Ultrasound

I agree Scott, I've played Carr's stuff and wasn't impressed at all. Most of those amps look killer, I'd probably spend all my time on the Trainwreck that Ultrasound has... mmmm, euphoria :32:
